Job Description:
At Ashurst Perkins Coie, we're helping shape the future economy. With a global team of more than 3,500 legal professionals across 52 offices, we partner with leading organisations to solve complex challenges across a diverse range of industries, with a distinct strength in technology, energy & infrastructure, and financial services. Our people work on market-leading matters that drive innovation, growth, and transformation around the world. For Ashurst Perkins Coie, innovation is our tradition.
Department/Role Overview:
Our derivatives and structured products team seeks a paralegal to support one of our Global Structured Products Partners in our New York office. You will be working closely with partners and senior attorneys within the Global Structured Products group, focusing on cross-border offerings of bespoke and flow structured securities by our global investment bank clients. This role provides a high level of responsibility and training, and is ideal for a motivated candidate with a strong desire to learn, and the firm will support your future development. It is desirable but not essential to have experience working in securities and/or banking as a foreign lawyer in a common-law or civil-law jurisdiction or related occupation.
Ashurst New York's first-class team of structured products attorneys offers substantial industry expertise, and provides transactional and structuring advice to leading international banks. Our Structured Products team has extensive experience advising on all forms of structured products (including notes, warrants and certificates), together with structured bank deposits, and across all underlying asset classes and product structures. We act as program counsel on several leading structured product platforms, which provides our team with a steady flow of diverse transactions.
Our team handles structured products ranging from standard debt and lightly-structured products, such as callable step-up notes and fixed to floating rate notes, to products linked to equities, indices, commodities, credit, foreign exchange rates, interest rates, inflation rates, funds, bonds, dynamic strategies and other asset classes and hybrids.
Ideal paralegal candidates are ambitious individuals with a strong interest in law or finance who are looking to gain substantive legal experience. Their responsibilities span a broad range of tasks, including conducting in-depth legal research, drafting and coordinating the execution of offering documents, and carefully reviewing filings prior to submission. Working closely with attorneys, paralegals perform an integral role in delivering exceptional legal services to our clients.
Core Responsibilities
  • The primary responsibility will be documenting and managing structured securities issuances governed by English, French or New York law for European and US based clients.
  • To support European based clients, paralegal candidates will need to start work at 5am Eastern Time on each working day.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and other legal counsels regarding outstanding deals.
  • Assist with the filing of deals with European regulators and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Maintain detailed records of client deal history and assume responsibility for crucial administrative duties relating to those records.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university (preferably in Economics, Finance or other related fields); minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an interest in financial markets.
  • Capacity to work in a team setting and perform tasks/projects independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with Bloomberg Terminal or other programming languages is a plus but not required.
  • Availability/Flexibility to support early operations (including starting work at 5am Eastern Time) and this position will be eligible for overtime.
