Job description

Position Overview

Sightline Systems is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to serve as the technical lead for our core development team. This is a leadership role: you will set the technical direction, own architectural decisions, drive code quality standards, and actively develop and mentor the engineers around you. Expect a roughly 50/50 split between hands-on development and technical leadership responsibilities.

You will report to the Project Manager and work closely with the CEO and stakeholders to translate product requirements into sound engineering solutions. The team you will lead consists of junior, mid-level, and senior developers across the EDM product line.

Required Qualifications

Core Development Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Java EE platform development for enterprise applications
  • Expertise in building browser-based user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with JSF 2.0 framework
  • Solid understanding of C/C++ programming
  • Cross-platform development experience in Linux/Unix and Windows environments

Database & Data Management

  • Proven experience with relational databases and SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle)
  • Working knowledge of ORM technologies such as Hibernate
  • Experience with Time Series databases, specifically InfluxDB

Modern Development Practices

  • Proficiency in developing RESTful APIs
  • Mobile application development experience
  • Scripting capabilities in both Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud technologies for building and deploying applications
  • Strong version control skills using Git, including gitflow workflows
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, sprint planning, and iterative delivery
  • Experience with security best practices and vulnerability remediation
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) to enhance development productivity and code quality

Project Management & Collaboration

  • Experience working with Jira for project tracking and issue management, and sprint workflows
  • Familiarity with Confluence for documentation and knowledge sharing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with or ability to guide others in any of the following is a plus:

  • Dart and Flutter
  • Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB)
  • Java Management Extensions (JMX) and Remote Method Invocation (RMI)
  • PrimeFaces framework
  • JBoss/WildFly application servers
  • jQuery and Ajax for enhanced web interactivity
  • Performance profiling and optimization for large-scale data processing workloads

Professional Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or senior individual contributor role
  • Strong organizational and task management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt and learn new technologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proven track record of effective team collaboration and cross-functional coordination
  • Work Authorization: Must be a U.S. Citizen; Sightline Systems is not able to sponsor international hires for this role
