Job Summary: A Fire Alarm Designer is responsible for using AutoCAD and other design software to create accurate and clear design documents, schematics, and layouts of fire alarm systems.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and specify detailed fire alarm and suppression systems adhering to local, state, and national codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Attend project specific meetings
  • Conduct thorough reviews of architectural and engineering drawings to ensure compatibility of design.
  • Provide expert technical advice and solutions to complex design challenges.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and client teams to ensure specifications and designs meet quality and safety standards.
  • Manage and oversee multiple design projects from concept through completion
  • Obtain permits as required, including all related duties such as preparation, delivery, corrections, etc.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the Hiller technicians and office staff to facilitate effective communications and exceptional customer service
  • Stay update with latest technologies and changes in fire protection regulations.
  • Perform field surveys as required by project needs (estimated to be <10% of time)
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; NICET Level IV certification in Fire Alarm Systems is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in designing fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Extensive experience with AutoCAD and any other relevant design software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection systems and applicable codes (NFPA, IBC, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and in a remote setting, managing time effectively and meeting project deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements
  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings and outdoor settings, which can potentially expose employees to noise, dust, heat stress, thermal stress, low light conditions, heights, etc.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending and kneeling for extended periods
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed, which would require use of fall protection equipment and other safety devices
  • Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.
