Job description

Job Summary

VIZ Media, the world leader in English-language versions of manga and anime (Japanese comics and animation), is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Accounting & Finance team. The Senior Financial Analyst will ensure accurate and timely reporting, support data-driven decision- making, and develop/maintain models to support financial plans and forecasts.

What you'll do:

  1. Partner with publishing and animation teams to analyze sales and P&L performance versus various financial benchmarks
  2. Collaborate with accounting team to support month-end and quarter-end close
  3. Provide monthly and quarterly financial reporting, analysis, and key metrics that enable business decision-making
  4. Work with cross-functional teams and senior leaders to support annual budgeting and forecasting processes
  5. Create financial models and perform profitability analyses to support strategic planning and evaluate new business opportunities
  6. Monitor and track key financial metrics, and effectively communicate insights to stakeholders
  7. Identify areas for process improvement and support the implementation of best practices in FP&A processes to increase efficiency and improve business outcomes
  8. Provide financial insight, and prepare dashboards and presentations for leadership team
  9. Stay up to date on industry and market trends to inform financial planning and analysis
  10. Perform ad hoc requests and drive cross-functional analytic projects for senior management

The ideal candidate has:

  • 2+ years of finance experience or related forecast/planning experience
  • Strong business acumen with high intellectual curiosity
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Team player mindset with ability to work cross functionally to solve complex issues
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel to analyze complex business scenarios by building financial models
  • Experience working with large datasets
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field, or equivalent experience, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position

Additional preferred skills/knowledge: 

  • Experience in media/entertainment/publishing industry
  • Interest in anime and/or manga
  • Experience with top ERP systems (e.g. Netsuite, Oracle, SAP) and data analytics software (e.g. Essbase)

Work Environment & Schedule

Location: The Senior Financial Analyst position is open to candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area. VIZ Media operates on a hybrid schedule with 1 day of work onsite at our downtown San Francisco office expected weekly. 

Schedule: This is a Regular Full-Time position (40 hours per week) with core hours of 10 am to 4 pm with some flexibility as needed. 

Compensation: $130,000 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience, with additional variable compensation
