Driven by innovation, safety, and craftsmanship, we have earned a reputation as a premier aerospace manufacturer. Located in beautiful Bend, Oregon, Epic offers an exciting work environment surrounded by mountains, rivers, and year-round outdoor recreation. If you're looking for a hands-on career with growth opportunities in aerospace manufacturing, we'd love to meet you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a CNC Programmer, you'll be a key member team of our team and will support the machining of aircraft composite tools and composite parts. This role is primarily focused on 3-axis CNC programming, with some 5-axis work as required. The programmer will generate, prove out, and support CNC programs for WinCNC-based routers and DMS 5-axis routers, working closely with manufacturing, tooling, and engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain CNC programs for machining composite molds, trim tools, fixtures, and composite parts
  • Primarily program 3-axis jobs, with occasional 5-axis programming for complex geometries
  • Generate CAM from CAD models, ensuring proper toolpaths, cutter selection, feeds, and speeds for composite materials
  • Perform program prove-out, troubleshoot machining issues, and refine programs to improve quality and cycle time
  • Work with manufacturing to resolve issues related to part quality, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy
  • Apply best practices for machining composite materials (carbon fiber, fiberglass, core materials, tooling board, etc.)
  • Maintain revision control and documentation for CNC programs and setup sheets
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to machining efficiency, tool life, and scrap reduction
  • Other duties as assigned or required

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Required

  • Experience programming CNC machines
  • Strong proficiency in CAM software for 3-axis machining
  • Working knowledge of 5-axis programming is helpful, but training is provided
  • Solid understanding of composite machining techniques and challenges (delamination, tool wear, dust control, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models
  • Experience supporting CNC programs on the shop floor and working directly with machinists
  • Comfortable working in a production manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on and manufacturing-focused
  • Comfortable balancing engineering intent with shop-floor realities
  • Clear communicator who works well with machinists, leads, and engineers
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and repeatability
  • Proficient and comfortable using a variety of hand and power tools
  • Must work well independently and in a team with a great attitude
  • Open to new ideas, challenges, and learning opportunities
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and organized
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship

Helpful but not required

  • Experience programming WinCNC-based machines
  • Experience programming Fagor-based CNC machines
  • Aerospace manufacturing or tooling experience
  • Familiarity with machining composite tooling board, aluminum fixtures, and production composite parts
  • Experience with process improvement and standardization

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move throughout the facility for the majority of the shift
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with attention to detail
  • Ability to lift materials and equipment as required
