The New York Post delivers news, sports, pop culture and entertainment with unmatched speed, attitude and authority, reaching more than 90 million unique viewers each month. With a 225 year legacy and a fast moving digital first newsroom, the Post operates across print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce, and continues to define the city's most talked about stories.

Based in California and reporting to the Page Six Deputy News Editor, Exclusives, the Senior Reporter, Exclusives will help develop, own and pursue beats that will enable Page Six and the California Post to break exclusives, not chase them.
This role will help drive the continued evolution of the Page Six brand while strengthening and expanding its presence on the West Coast.
We're looking for a reporter with a passion for compelling storytelling and delivering fast-paced stories while adhering to the highest journalistic standards of sourcing, accuracy and ethics.
They need a network of industry contacts and a deep understanding of California and what Angelinos really care about in the Entertainment space.
Responsibilities:
  • Pitch, develop and execute exclusive stories quickly and accurately that distinguish Page Six from its competitors to drive sustained impact and audience growth.
  • Work closely with New York and California newsrooms to drive original reporting and break exclusives.
  • Participate in meetings to pitch and refine story ideas, troubleshoot reporting challenges, develop strategies to break news/follow ups, and flag upcoming events with strong exclusive potential.
  • Report on mostly West Coast-based beats and monitor court cases daily to break timely, accurate updates.
  • Attend important court hearings and trials.
  • Knowledge of requesting police reports, mug shots, body-camera footage, court filings, and financial, business and real estate records to support exclusive reporting.
  • Develop and maintain trusted sources through cold calls, tips and networking.
  • Conduct in-person reporting and field coverage on the West Coast.
  • Develop, report and publish exclusive stories/investigations.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience in entertainment journalism.
  • A strong understanding of journalistic ethics and the legal standards governing reporting, including source protection, libel and defamation, and responsible handling of sensitive stories.
  • Strong news judgment with a deep knowledge of the key players in the entertainment industry.
  • Experience with requesting court documents and police records, reading legal documents, building sources, communicating and forming relationships with reps.
  • A creative outlook when it comes to breaking out exclusive potentials and follow up stories to high-performing articles.
  • Strong spelling, grammar and fact-checking skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-pressure newsroom environment.
  • An extensive contacts book.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Consistent delivery of agenda-setting exclusives that lead coverage across the entertainment news cycle and help differentiate Page Six and California Post from its competitors.
  • A measurable contribution to Page Six's brand growth, audience engagement, and reputation as a market leader in entertainment news.
  • Contribution to significant audience growth in The Californian market.

Note: This role will be expected to report into our California office 5 days per week (subject to change depending on business needs).
