Position: News Editor (The Sun)

Location: NYC 1211 6th Avenue

Type: Full time in office

Pay Range: $80,000 - $110,000

News Editor - The U.S. Sun

Are you a driven and dynamic journalist looking to make an impact at one of the fastest-growing digital news platforms? The U.S. Sun is looking for an experienced News Editor to join our team in New York.

Why Join Us?

Part of News Corp, The U.S. Sun has quickly become a dominant force in digital journalism, delivering exclusive content on news, entertainment, lifestyle, and more. Since our US launch in 2020, we've exceeded traffic and revenue goals, establishing ourselves as the fastest-growing news site in the US.

Whatโ€™s the Role?

This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom and is passionate about breaking stories, driving original reporting, and mentoring a team.

You will identify and break national stories and will assign, edit and publish stories.

This is a role for someone who lives and breathes the news and can break stories at pace.

You will understand SEO and search-driven content strategies to increase readership and search visibility, monitor analytics, Google Trends, Parsley, and audience performance to guide editorial decisions while ensuring accuracy, speed and editorial standards in a high-volume breaking news environment.

Day to day you will:
  • Lead the news team: assigning stories, managing breaking news, ensuring strong editorial standards, and taking the lead on the biggest stories of the day.
  • Run morning editorial meetings and shape the daily news agenda.
  • Work closely with SEO, audience, video, and design teams to maximize reach.
  • Develop reporters and editors through coaching and feedback.
  • Prioritize original content and exclusives.
  • Monitor performance across platforms and adapt strategy as needed.
  • Manage forward planning for the news section, and planning stories and content around future events.
  • Help build out specialist sections e.g. motors and travel
  • Occasionally manage weekend or evening news operations if there is a larger event, e.g, the Oscars, the Super Bowl.
What weโ€™re looking for from you:
  • Experienced Journalist: At least 5 years of journalism experience, including 2+ years in an editing role.
  • Management experience: Experience managing reporters and producing standout breaking news and exclusives.
  • Tech-savvy: Experience with analytics tools, SEO, social media, and strategies for growing a digital audience.
  • Legal and Compliance-Aware: Comfortable ensuring all content meets legal and ethical standards.
  • Fast-Paced Thinker: Ability to thrive under pressure, making quick decisions and adapting in a fast-moving newsroom while remaining calm and collaborative.
  • A clear sense of what makes The US Sun's voice stand out - and how to keep it sharp.
What we offer:
  • Salary: Competitive Salary based on experience with excellent benefits, including healthcare, dental, and 401K.
  • Career Growth: Take on a leading role in a dynamic newsroom with exciting career opportunities.
  • Prime Location: Work from our Midtown Manhattan office with access to a subsidized restaurant and fitness center.
Shifts & Schedule
  • Full-time, based in our Midtown Manhattan office
  • Regular office hours with occasional evening and weekend shifts
