A Brief Overview
The Senior Radiation Therapist is an experienced clinical professional and key member of the multidisciplinary oncology care team, responsible for delivering safe, accurate, compassionate, and evidence-based radiation therapy to patients. This role performs complex simulation and treatment procedures using advanced linear accelerator and imaging technology while ensuring treatments are administered in accordance with the radiation oncologist's prescription, departmental protocols, and regulatory standards.
In addition to direct patient care, the Senior Radiation Therapist serves as a clinical resource for radiation therapy staff, supports workflow coordination, assists with quality assurance and safety practices, and promotes best practices in patient positioning, immobilization, documentation, and treatment delivery. The position exists to provide expert-level radiation therapy services, support continuity and quality of care, and help maintain an efficient, patient-centered treatment environment.
What you will do
  • Deliver advanced radiation therapy treatments in accordance with physician prescriptions, treatment plans, departmental protocols, and regulatory standards, ensuring accurate patient positioning, immobilization, imaging, and treatment delivery.
  • Perform and support complex CT simulations, treatment setups, image-guided procedures, special procedures, and emergency simulations while applying senior-level clinical judgment and technical expertise.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for radiation therapy staff, students, and new team members by supporting orientation, competency development, troubleshooting, and consistent application of best practices.
  • Coordinate daily clinical workflow in collaboration with department leadership to support efficient patient scheduling, treatment continuity, equipment readiness, and timely communication of operational needs.
  • Participate in quality assurance, safety checks, chart review support, incident prevention, and adherence to radiation safety standards to promote safe and accurate treatment delivery.
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, nurses, and other members of the oncology care team to monitor patient status, communicate treatment-related concerns, and support compassionate, patient-centered care.

Education Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited Radiation Therapy program Required

Experience Qualifications
  • Minimum four years' experience Required

Skills and Abilities
  • Good interpersonal/human relations skills
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations and unpleasant elements
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials and wear protective clothing
  • Ability to operate a personal computer.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the unique care needs for patients across all age groups.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Radiation Therapist - South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association Required
  • Radiography - American Registry Radiologic Technologist Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required
