Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking experienced Technical Editors and Writers to support the development of engineering documentation for advanced military and aerospace systems. The successful candidates will work with engineering teams to create, edit, and maintain technical publications supporting radar, communications, sensor, and defense systems including F-22, F-35, Joint Strike Fighter, F-16, B-1B, MESA, G/ATOR, VADER, UAV platforms, and other advanced military technologies.

Note: This position is focused on Engineering Technical Writing. Grant Writers, Government Proposal Writers, and Proposal Writers will not be considered.


Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Documentation Development
  • Write, edit, revise, and maintain engineering documentation and technical publications.

  • Develop technical procedure manuals, test requirement documents (TRDs), user manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related engineering documentation.

  • Ensure technical information is communicated clearly and accurately to a variety of audiences.

Technical Publications & Content Management
  • Produce and publish documentation in multiple formats including:

    • Page-Based Publications

    • Electronic Publications

    • Interactive Technical Documents

    • Structured Content Formats

  • Support creation and maintenance of engineering technical manuals and supporting publications.

Structured Authoring
  • Develop and manage structured content using:

    • XML

    • SGML

    • HTML

    • DITA

    • S1000D

  • Utilize structured authoring tools such as:

    • Arbortext

    • MadCap Flare

    • Adobe FrameMaker

Collaboration & Research
  • Collaborate with engineers, task leads, instructors, subject matter experts, and program teams.

  • Research and gather technical information from engineering drawings, program documentation, technical specifications, and source materials.

  • Translate complex engineering concepts into user-friendly documentation.

Quality Assurance & Editing
  • Conduct quality reviews of technical publications and engineering documentation.

  • Verify accuracy, consistency, compliance, formatting, and technical completeness.

  • Ensure documentation meets military and civilian standards.

Desktop Publishing
  • Perform desktop publishing activities for:

    • Technical Reports

    • White Papers

    • Articles

    • Engineering Publications

    • Program Documentation

  • Oversee preparation of illustrations, diagrams, charts, sketches, and technical graphics.

Additional Duties
  • Support documentation lifecycle management.

  • Participate in continuous process improvement initiatives.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Required QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline or related field.

OR

  • Military operations and maintenance experience involving:

    • Radar Systems

    • Communications Systems

    • Electro-Optical Systems

    • Network Systems

    • Information Technology-Based Sensors/Systems

OR

  • Equivalent Engineering or Military Technical Background.

Experience
  • Experience developing engineering technical documentation.

  • Strong technical writing and editing experience.

  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional attention to detail.

Security Clearance
  • Must possess and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Clearance.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of Engineering Technical Writing experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience using:

    • Arbortext

    • MadCap Flare

    • Adobe FrameMaker

  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100).

  • Experience with:

  • Experience supporting Aerospace, Defense, Military, Radar, Communications, or Sensor Systems Programs.
