The Oracle EBS Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and lifecycle management of Marquette's Oracle E-Business environment. This role focuses on proactive maintenance, patching, upgrades, and platform migrations within a high-availability production setting. This position manages all aspects of Oracle E-Business Suite application and database tier maintenance, including CPU/PSU patching, one-off patches, and annual major and minor updates. This is a technical, hands-on role suited for an experienced administrator who takes ownership of maintaining complex Oracle EBS environments that are stable, secure, and up-to-date.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Plan and execute EBS application tier and database tier patching cycles with minimal downtime and during off-hours as dictated by business needs.
2. Lead project migrations, cloning, and environment refreshes to support development, testing, and production activities.
3. Monitor and tune system performance to ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness. Maintain accurate documentation of environments, patching history, and standard operating procedures.
4. Collaborate with project teams, developers, and business stakeholders during major initiatives and cutovers. Work with Applications team and vendor technical support to resolve performance and functionality issues.
5. Manage database and application security controls, proactively mitigating risk through patching, configuration standards, and adherence to university security and compliance requirements.
6. Perform OS-level forklift migrations and platform upgrades (e.g., Linux version upgrades, hardware refreshes, cloud/on-prem transitions).
7. Provide subject matter expertise to Project Managers and other IT Services management. Serve as DBA representative on project teams for database/application implementation and upgrade projects.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum of 6-8 years of Oracle enterprise level DBA experience hands-on administration of Oracle E-Business Suite (R12.1/R12.2) in multi-tier environments.
Strong expertise in Oracle Database Multitenant administration (19c/12c) supporting EBS.
Proven track record managing patching, quarterly CPUs, and enterprise-scale migrations.
Solid experience with Linux/Unix operating systems and EBS application tier technologies (WebLogic, Forms, Concurrent Managers, etc.).
Ability to support planned and emergency after hour maintenance or troubleshooting
Exceptional SQL and scripting capabilities
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master's degree in Computer Science, Business or related field.
Oracle Certified Professional, Oracle Database 19c R12.2 Oracle Applications System Administrator Fundamentals
10 or more years of hands-on administration of Oracle E-Business Suite (R12.1/R12.2) in multi-tier environments.
