Position Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Cost Analyst who combines strong financial discipline with a hands-on understanding of project operations. This role is ideal for someone experienced in project cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and capital project accounting—and who partners with technical and field teams to deliver measurable results The Cost Analyst will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing project costs and financial performance to ensure projects are delivered within budget and aligned with client and company objectives. Working closely with managers, engineers, and other operational stakeholders, this role will deliver monthly reporting, variance analysis, forecasting, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, track, and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting for active projects.
- Perform cost variance and trend analysis to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Prepare periodic financial and performance reports (weekly/monthly) for internal stakeholders and leadership.
- Partner with project managers and operations teams to provide financial transparency and ensure alignment with scope and budget.
- Review and validate invoices, change orders, and purchase commitments to ensure accuracy and compliance with contractual terms.
- Support capital classification and fixed asset accounting in accordance with GAAP.
- Support month-end close by preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals for capital and expense projects.
- Participate in audit and compliance processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to internal controls and SOX requirements.
- Identify and drive process improvements in the cost reporting lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related field required.
- 3–7 years of experience in project cost control, financial analysis, or capital project accounting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with project and financial stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of project lifecycle financials—from budgeting and forecasting to closeout and capitalization.
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems.
- Knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and capital vs. expense decision-making preferred
