Job description

Oneida Health is currently looking for a part-time Program Assistant (approximately 20 hours a week) to work the day shift in supporting our Healthy Seniors Program. This position will work under the direction of the Care Coordinator on various tasks to meet tenant and program needs including some clerical work, assisting with planned activities, minimal personal care, minimal cleaning of apartments, and driving residents of the Healthy Seniors Program to and from appointments as needed using the program's van. The ideal candidate will be efficient and able to perform tasks thoroughly.

What You'll be Great At:
  • Assist the Program Director to plan and organize diverse program activities and events
  • Able to regularly lead activities independently for groups of 10-20 people including but not limited to meals, exercises, seminars, crafts, etc.
  • Explain the rules of activities and instruct participants at a variety of skill levels
  • Enforce safety rules to prevent injury
  • Modify activities to suit the needs of seniors
  • Administer basic first aid if needed
  • Organize, set up, and clean up the equipment that is used in activities
  • Plan and implement programming that addresses the needs of senior citizens including but not limited to: social isolation, healthy meals/snacks, kitchen safety, exercise, computer/cell phone skills, financial literacy, and other programs geared toward the frail/elderly population
  • Monitor and replenish supply inventory as needed
  • Utilize program van to transport participants to planned outings
  • Recognize and report participant related medical, physical, social, and emotional concerns to Program Director
  • Able to research and implement ideas for programming including crafts, cooking, seminars, etc.
  • Able to call and obtain information from outside organizations for community events

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Prefer, at minimum, satisfactory coursework in areas relevant to the position including but not limited to: nutrition, culinary, recreation, psychology

EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience working with individuals with different dietary needs
  • Experience planning/preparing/presenting to larger groups of individuals
  • Experience with the senior population

LICENSES & CERTIFICATION:
  • Valid NYS Driver's License
  • CPR certification

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Able to work independently at times
