Job description

A great client of UHY is seeking an Interim Controller. The ideal candidate will have strong government accounting experience (a requirement), a hands-on approach to accounting cleanup, and experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.


The Interim Controller role is a remote position.


Interim Controller Responsibilities

  • Lead a comprehensive accounting cleanup from June 2025 through the current period
  • Perform and correct bank reconciliations and resolve historical discrepancies
  • Bring accounting records up to date and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Oversee the full accounting cycle and establish consistent accounting processes
  • Partner with the Director of Finance to rebuild and strengthen the accounting function
  • Support accounting activities related to client funds and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Review existing accounting processes and identify additional resources needed
  • Support audit preparation and resolution of outstanding financial reporting issues

Interim Controller Requirements

  • Strong experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
  • Experience leading accounting cleanups or bringing significantly outdated books current
  • Governmental accounting experience required
  • Strong understanding of full-accrual accounting principles
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex accounting issues
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in an environment where processes and systems are still being developed
