This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who enjoys partnering with clients, leading teams, and shaping long-term benefits strategies in a dynamic consulting environment.

As a Senior Consultant, you will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, guiding plan design, financial strategy, vendor negotiations, and implementation - while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development efforts.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary consultant and relationship manager for assigned client groups
  • Lead consulting engagements across medical, pharmacy, dental, life, disability, vision, FSA/HSA, voluntary benefits, and reinsurance
  • Drive claims analysis, renewal strategy, and financial modeling to support long-term client decision-making
  • Manage RFPs, vendor searches, and carrier negotiations on behalf of clients
  • Oversee plan implementations, open enrollment strategies, and employee communications
  • Present complex financial and compliance topics clearly to client leadership teams
  • Identify cost drivers, utilization trends, benchmarking insights, and plan design opportunities
  • Stay current on healthcare marketplace trends, ACA requirements, and regulatory changes
  • Mentor and develop junior consultants and analysts
  • Support client development and growth efforts, including finalist presentations and conferences

Requirements

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • 15+ years of experience in health & welfare consulting, brokerage, or carrier environments
  • Deep expertise in group health plan strategy, pricing, and financial analysis
  • Proven success managing complex client relationships and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong presentation, communication, and executive-level consulting skills
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff
  • Working knowledge of benefits administration platforms and healthcare compliance (ACA)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Preferred Qualifications

  • CEBS designation or actuarial/underwriting training
  • Maryland Health & Life license (or ability to obtain within first year)
  • Maryland Health Exchange Agent/Broker certification (or commitment to obtain)

Travel

  • Approximately 30% regional travel (land and air)

Bolton offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Family medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Employer-paid life and disability insurance
  • 401(k) with company match (after 6 months)
  • Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave
  • Hybrid telework arrangements
  • Monthly fitness stipend
  • Ongoing professional development and growth opportunities
