POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Commercial Underwriter prepares loan requests for intake to include reviewing for completeness, concentration risk, and adherence to Bank credit policy. This position also reviews underwriting analyses to verify accuracy, consistency, and adherence to Bank credit policy. The Senior Commercial Underwriter serves as a resource for complex commercial requests and loan structures, and coordinates with credit analysts and senior leadership to support timely and well-supported credit decisions. This position reports to the Commercial Underwriting Manager and provides excellent service and support to team members and customers while demonstrating the Company's values and supporting the mission.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare loan requests for intake to include reviewing for completeness, concentration risk, and adherence to Bank credit policy
  • Communicate with lenders and loan assistants regarding incomplete loan requests, assisting with resolution as needed
  • Assign loan requests to credit analysts for financial spreading, cash flow modeling, and comprehensive analysis
  • Mentor credit analysts regarding loan structure and methodology
  • Review underwriting analyses prepared by analysts and underwriters to verify accuracy, consistency, and adherence to Bank credit policy
  • Communicate with lenders and credit analysts regarding incomplete underwriting analyses, assisting with resolution as needed
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for complex commercial credit requests and loan structures
  • Partner with Relationship Managers, Credit Administration team, and senior leadership to support timely and well-supported credit decisions
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance efficiency, documentation quality, and exam readiness
  • Maintain strong internal controls and examination preparedness within the underwriting function
  • Consult with lending team members and provide guidance regarding the commercial underwriting process and loan policy interpretation
  • Verify departmental documents and activities are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks
  • Attend training as requested
  • Adhere to compliance with all federal bank regulations and laws, including those for consumer protection and the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Program
  • Participate in outside community activities as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or related field
  • 7 years of experience in a related role
  • 5 years of banking experience preferred
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office to include Excel
  • Solid ability to read, analyze, and interpret personal and business financial statements and related tax returns
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge and expertise to department policies and procedures
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while accomplishing daily tasks
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong presentation skills
