About the Role:
The Senior Digital Workplace Engineer - AI & Collaboration is a senior individual contributor and technical lead responsible for the architecture, deployment, administration, and continuous improvement of Gen's enterprise collaboration and AI platforms. This role sits at the intersection of engineering depth and strategic vision - owning the technical execution of Gen's collaboration ecosystem (Microsoft 365, OneDrive/SharePoint, Slack, and emerging AI productivity tools). This role also serves as the primary lead for collaboration platform integrations during mergers and acquisitions.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility role that combines deep hands-on technical expertise with strong strategic vision. Gen is an AI-first company, and this role anticipates how AI and automation will reshape the collaboration landscape and positions Gen to continue its rapid transformation.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaboration Platform Engineering & Administration
  • Serve as the primary technical owner and senior subject matter expert for Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, OneDrive, Power Platform) and Slack Enterprise Grid. Additional experience with Google Workspace & Microsoft Teams preferred.
  • Architect, configure, and manage these platforms end to end, including solution design, configuration, standards/best practices, documentation, and integrations with other core enterprise systems.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring timely request fulfillment, proactive monitoring and maintenance, incident management, and coordination with vendors and support partners.
  • Partner with Security, Compliance, and Legal to ensure collaboration solutions meet enterprise security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, including access controls, DLP, eDiscovery, and auditability.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, and other IT teams to translate requirements into scalable, well-governed solutions, balancing innovation, risk, and operational readiness.
  • Design and implement automation solutions to streamline business processes, reduce manual effort, and improve employee experience.
  • Provide L3/L4 escalation support and mentor junior engineers and administrators, building reusable runbooks, documentation, and knowledge articles to continually mature operational discipline.

M&A Integration & Platform Migrations
  • Lead the technical execution of collaboration platform integrations for acquired companies, including assessment, planning, and migration of:
  • Slack-to-Slack workspace migrations (grid-to-grid, workspace consolidation, channel/app/data migration)
  • Microsoft Teams-to-Slack migrations (greenfield and lift-and-shift approaches)
  • Google Workspace-to-Microsoft 365 migrations (Google Drive & Shared Drives to OneDrive/SharePoint)
  • Develop and maintain M&A integration playbooks for collaboration-stack consolidation, covering identity, workspace provisioning, app re-enablement, data migration, and user communication.
  • Conduct pre-acquisition technical assessments of target company collaboration environments, identifying risks, dependencies, and integration complexity.
  • Coordinate with Security, Legal, Compliance, and People & Culture teams to ensure migrations meet data retention, eDiscovery, DLP, and regulatory requirements.

AI & Emerging Technology
  • Drive the evaluation, deployment, and governance of AI-powered productivity tools across the company, including Slack AI, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Glean, Claude, and ChatGPT Enterprise.
  • Architect AI agents and AI-assisted workflow automations using these platforms to reduce manual processes, improve operational efficiency, and enhance employee experience.
  • Design and build foundational Power Platform and M365 Copilot/Copilot Studio environments to support the secure, scalable launch of new AI capabilities.
  • Define and enforce guardrails, policies, and best practices for the safe, secure, and responsible use of AI tools (prompting, data access, retention, and human review), in partnership with Security, Legal, and Compliance teams.
  • Drive adoption and change management for AI solutions, including enablement materials, office hours, and meaningful metrics to measure usage, outcomes, and ROI.
  • Partner with the CTO and IT leadership to define Gen's AI collaboration strategy, identifying and prioritizing high-value use cases where agents, copilots, and automation can meaningfully improve productivity.
  • Stay current on the rapidly evolving AI collaboration landscape and provide recommendations on emerging tools, vendor roadmaps, and industry best practices.

Documentation, Operations & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architecture diagrams, admin runbooks, and knowledge base articles in ServiceNow and Confluence.
  • Manage ServiceNow catalog items and workflows for collaboration service requests (Slack guest access, app approvals, SharePoint provisioning, etc.).
  • Serve as the escalation point for collaboration platform issues, working directly with vendors (Slack, Microsoft, OpenAI, & Glean) to diagnose and resolve platform-level issues.
  • Communicate technical decisions, project status, and platform changes to IT leadership, business stakeholders, and end users through clear written and verbal communication.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the broader team's technical growth.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise IT infrastructure, with a strong focus on collaboration, communication, and digital workplace platforms.
  • Deep expertise in Slack Enterprise Grid administration, including workspace governance, external collaboration enablement, app management, and multi-workspace architecture.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft 365 collaboration and AI services, including OneDrive, SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
  • Proven experience leading collaboration platform migrations, such as Slack-to-Slack, Teams-to-Slack, and Google Workspace-to-M365, across large or complex environments.
  • Demonstrated M&A integration experience, including technical assessment, platform consolidation strategy, and end-to-end migration execution for acquired companies' collaboration environments.
  • Strong proficiency with API-based integrations, webhooks, and workflow automation tools (e.g., Power Automate, Slack Workflow Builder, REST APIs).
  • Experience integrating collaboration platform logs into SIEM solutions (e.g., Splunk) and building monitoring/alerting to support security and operations use cases.
  • Strong project management and communication skills, with a track record of managing multiple concurrent work-streams, clearly communicating status and risk, and delivering against aggressive timelines.

About You:
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with enterprise AI search and knowledge platforms (e.g., Glean, Microsoft 365 Copilot, or similar), including connector configuration and agentic use case design.
  • Hands-on experience rolling out and governing AI productivity tools at scale (e.g., Glean, M365 Copilot, Slack AI, ChatGPT Enterprise), including policy design, enablement programs, and adoption measurement.
  • Familiarity with the ServiceNow ITSM platform, including catalog item design, workflow configuration, and CMDB integration for collaboration and AI services.
  • Relevant industry certifications, such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, Slack Certified Administrator, or other equivalents
  • Experience working in a global, multi-brand enterprise with diverse collaboration tool ecosystems and regional requirements.
