Job description

Basic Job Purpose:
The Machine Tool Setup Attendant is responsible for preparing CNC machine tools for production. This role supports CNC Machinists and Setup Technicians by organizing and preparing all resources required for scheduled jobs, assisting with tooling availability and readiness. The position plays a critical role in reducing setup times, increasing machine uptime, and supporting continuous production.
Assignment of Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare CNC machines for scheduled production by staging tooling, fixtures, gauges and setup documentation.
  • Present and remove cutting tools, tool holders, and fixtures according to setup sheets and established procedures.
  • Preset tooling using tool presetters and verify tool lengths and offsets as required.
  • Verify tooling, fixtures, and work holding equipment are clean, serviceable, and available prior to production.
  • Maintain tooling inventory and coordinate replacement of worn or damaged tooling.
  • Work with tooling suppliers to maintain tooling inventory and the reorder of tools as needed
  • Ensure all setup carts are complete and ready prior to scheduled production.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning to prepare machines for upcoming jobs.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Maintain organized tooling, fixture, and setup storage areas using 5S principles.
  • Report equipment issues, damaged tooling, or setup discrepancies to supervision.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.

Minimum Requirements for Education, Skillset, Qualifications, and Experience:
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical education in machining or manufacturing technology preferred.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience in a CNC machining environment preferred.
  • Experience with CNC machine setups or tooling preparation preferred.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts is a plus.
  • Understanding of CNC machining processes and machine setup procedures.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, setup sheets, and manufacturing travelers.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, tool holders, fixtures, and workholding.
  • Familiarity with tool presetting equipment.
  • Basic understanding of CNC controls and program selection.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting multiple production areas.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout the workday.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes.
  • Bend, stoop, climb, and reach while preparing machines and tooling.
  • Work safely around moving equipment and machinery.

Working Conditions:
  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolant, lubricants, metal chips, and moving equipment.
  • Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Overtime and shift flexibility may be required to support production schedules.
