Job description

Overview

Job Purpose:

The CNC Programming Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, machining precision plastic components that meet customer specifications, quality standards, and shop deadlines. This role develops and maintains Mastercam programs to control CNC machining operations and applies technical knowledge of plastic materials, machining processes, tooling, and precision measuring instruments to produce high quality parts efficiently.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare CNC programs as per drawings/instructions using Mastercam, SolidWorks and AutoCAD.  Able to generate CNC programs to support new products/tooling projects.
  •  Assist estimator on quotations for complex parts or one-of-a-kind orders.
  •  Confer with manufacturing, engineering, programmers, estimators and other personnel to resolve machining and programming issues.
  • Required to set up and operate CNC machines with no supervision and be able to help train or instruct others on set-ups.
  •  Identify, resolve and/or communicate job or machine problems. Maintain safe and clean work area.
  • Review blueprints and setup sheets to make parts according to customer specifications.
  • Adjust tool offsets as needed.
  • Utilize gauging equipment to check parts and properly set up area near machine.
  • Perform first article inspections and collaborate with Quality Control to ensure high quality parts are produced.
  • Other tasks as assigned


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training in CNC Machining, manufacturing, or a         related field preferred.
  • Previous experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC turning centers.
  • Proficiency in Mastercam required, experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs based on drawings, blueprint, and setup instructions.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, speeds and feeds, offsets, and tool adjustments.
  •  Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, tolerances, and job specifications.
