Job description

Sonic Aerospace is looking for an experienced Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer / Senior CNC Programmer to join our expanding precision manufacturing team in Chandler, Arizona.

We seek a manufacturing engineer with extensive aerospace machining expertise who can oversee complex multi-axis processes, enhance production efficiency, support manufacturing operations, and program challenging aerospace parts from prototype to full production.

Sonic Aerospace excels in precision machining for the aerospace, defense, and space sectors. We machine complex castings, forgings, and hog-outs with advanced multi-axis machinery, working extensively with materials like aluminum, titanium, inconel, stainless steel, hastelloy, MAR-M-247, and other challenging materials.

Our facility is AS9100D certified, ITAR registered, CMMC 2.0 Level 2, and equipped with advanced inspection and multi-axis machining capabilities.


Responsibilities

  • Program, optimize, and troubleshoot 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machining centers.
  • Develop manufacturing processes for complex aerospace components.
  • Create and maintain setup documentation, tooling strategies, and shop travelers within ERP systems.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, blueprints, and customer specifications.
  • Support machining operations with tooling selection, fixture concepts, and process improvements.
  • Edit and verify G-code and post-processor outputs.
  • Collaborate with machinists, quality assurance, and engineering teams to enhance throughput and quality.
  • Reduce setup times, improve efficiency, and drive manufacturability improvements.
  • Support first article inspections and production readiness.

Qualifications

  • Over five years of experience in aerospace CNC programming and manufacturing engineering.
  • Extensive experience with GibbsCAM or Mastercam.
  • Experience machining aerospace-grade materials such as titanium and nickel alloys.
  • Ability to understand GD&T, blueprints, and engineering models.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing documentation.
  • Extensive knowledge of tooling, feeds and speeds, fixturing, and machining strategies.
  • Experience with AS9100 quality management systems is preferred.

Equipment & Technology

  • Okuma lathes.
  • Doosan and Yama Seiki multi-axis milling machines.
  • Simultaneous 5-axis machining.
  • High-speed machining capable of operating at up to 15,000 RPM.
  • Advanced CMM inspection systems compliant with SPX-00033100.
  • CAD/CAM engineering environment.
