Purpose/ Summary:

The CNC Programmer position is responsible for reading and interpreting design blueprints, programming the CNC machines, and adjusting the machine settings to meet the specifications needed in order to facilitate the manufacture of components.

Location: Prescott, AZ

This is a full-time role that may require some extended hours and weekends, as needed.


Responsibilities:

  • Reviews the fixturing and provides support for fixture design as required
  • Evaluates new cutting tools
  • Analyzes drawings, sketches and design data of the parts to determine the dimension and configuration of the cuts
  • Selects the appropriate tools and machine speeds and feed rates according to the machine shop processes, part specifications and machine capabilities
  • Writes the instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide set-up and operation of the machine
  • Optimizes the existing programs
  • Ensures quality control standards are maintained
  • Maintains production schedules from the prototype run to production
  • Provides shop floor support for the life of the program
  • Documents set-up information and programming writing/support for various CNC 3, 4 and 5 axis milling operations
  • Participates in process development, including creation of detailed router instructions, operation sheets, tool selection and fixture and tooling design
  • Interfaces daily with manufacturing and quality functions 
  • Works with customers and suppliers to resolve process and design issues 
  • Incorporates lean manufacturing in cell environment and quick change set-up, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skill & Ability:

  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD & T)
  • Thorough knowledge of G code programming
  • Knowledge and experience in the major aerospace alloy groups (titanium, stainless, nickel and aluminum)
  • Thorough knowledge of quality control procedures
  • Excellent mathematical, measurement, and technical skills
  • Expert computer software programming skills
  • Sound project management and presentation skills
  • Self-directed work ethic & time management skills to assure projects are completed on time
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints and prepare machining process
  • Analytical skills to lead and solve problems to improve business process
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills
  • Must be a team player and have the ability to work well with others in a cross functional team environment

Education/Experience:

  • Two (2) year Technical degree
  • Two (2) years of related experience in CNC Programming and machine shop practices in the Aerospace industry 
  • Solid CAD modeling experience 

Work Environment: 

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, acetone, alcohol, argon, braze alloys, nitrogen, hydrogen, oil based lubricants, and cleaning solutions
  • Occasionally exposed to moderate cold and extreme heat
  • Noise level is usually middling

Physical Demands:  

  • Regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Frequently required to talk or hear   
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Vision abilities required include close vision and color vision
