We are looking for a Senior Certification Engineer to join Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis, the global leader in Raman spectroscopy, tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS), and quenched fluorescence (QF) instrumentation for laboratory, process, and manufacturing environments. Our laser-based analyzer systems perform high-performance chemical composition and concentration measurement of all phases of matter in any installation environment.
What is the role about?
The Senior Certification Engineer serves as the company's technical authority for hazardous area and product certifications, leading certification activities throughout the product lifecycle to ensure requirements are identified, planned, and executed. This role acts as the focal point for certification activities, coordinating requirements with internal stakeholders, customers, certification bodies, and regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate has experience independently managing design reviews, certification maintenance, audits, and regulatory interactions, and possesses the technical judgment, initiative, and leadership skills necessary to drive certification programs to successful completion.
Which essential functions will you perform?
  • Serve as the company's technical authority for hazardous-area and product certifications, including ATEX, IECEx, UKEX, NEC, CEC, and related regulatory requirements. Provide guidance to Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Commercial teams on certification and compliance matters.
  • Own relationships with notified bodies, certification agencies, and regulatory authorities, including certification applications, design change assessments, surveillance audits, and maintenance of product approvals.
  • Lead certification strategy and execution throughout the product lifecycle by evaluating design changes, approving certification-impacting modifications, managing concessions, and ensuring continued compliance of certified products.
  • Ensure compliance aspects of embedded laser technologies, including applicable laser safety requirements and the interaction between laser and hazardous-area certifications.
  • Develop, maintain, and submit certification documentation, technical files, analyses, test plans, reports, declarations, and other regulatory deliverables required to obtain and maintain global product approvals.
  • Coordinate cross-functional certification activities with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, customers, and external agencies to ensure certification requirements are identified, planned, and successfully executed.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance of products, manufacturing processes, and quality systems with applicable standards, including ISO 9001 and IEC 80079-34, while monitoring regulatory changes and driving implementation of new requirements.
  • Support customer-facing compliance activities by ensuring the accuracy of certification information, installation instructions, marketing materials, and applicable conditions of use.

The duties above describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties; additional responsibilities may be assigned, as required, by management.
What qualifications are needed?
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in product certification, compliance, or hazardous-area equipment.
  • Expertise with ATEX, IECEx, UKEX, NEC, and/or CEC certification requirements.
  • Experience working directly with notified bodies, certification agencies, and regulatory authorities.
  • Strong understanding of explosion protection standards and certified product change control.
  • Ability to assess certification impacts from engineering drawings, specifications, and design changes.
  • Strong project leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience administering an IEC 80079-34 quality management system.
  • Knowledge of IEC/UL 61010 product safety requirements.
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation, analyzers, or process automation products.
  • Familiarity with IEC 60825 laser safety requirements and Class 3B laser products.
  • Experience supporting global certifications including CE, UKCA, EMC, and RoHS.

What can you expect from us?
  • Family-owned, highly committed global company with a sustainable vision of the future.
  • Lifelong learning encouraged by versatile training, tuition reimbursement, and further education opportunities.
  • Comprehensive benefit package (to include medical, dental, vision) and 401(k) savings with company match.
  • Compensation is competitive and includes bonus opportunities.
  • Work-life balance encouraged through our 10 company-paid holidays, paid time off, paid parental leave, and employee assistance programs (financial, mental, and physical health and wellbeing).
  • Employees work in a safety-first, climate controlled, clean manufacturing facility with utilization of Lean practices and ergonomic workstations to enhance productivity and comfort.
