Job Summary
The Business Settlement Analyst is a position where a combination of strong technical and analytical skills is used to perform all aspects of power settlements for WEC Energy Group and its affiliates.
Objectives include transaction verification and reconciliation to ensure data integrity, billing and payment processing, discrepancy investigation and resolution, development and implementation of new accounting procedures according to GAAP, data analysis, reporting and special projects as assigned. Power settlements include RTO Energy and Operating Reserves Markets, wholesale contract and transmission settlements. The Business Settlement Analyst interprets wholesale contracts and tariffs and negotiates the resolution of issues with both Energy and Operating Reserves Markets and counterparties. The Business Settlement Analyst reconciles the general ledger balances in SAP, prepares various FERC reports on a regular basis, interprets and applies the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and responds to internal and external audit and data requests. In addition, the Business Settlements Analyst provides feedback to the Power Operations and Wholesale Energy Marketing and Planning areas within the Company, provides output information to Finance and Regulatory, prepares and distributes various reports and provides expertise to others as requested. The Business Settlement Analyst is responsible for representing the Company's interests in various internal and external forums.
This position is highly self-directed with a solid understanding of business processes and requirements and works as a member of the Settlements team to accomplish team objectives. The Business Settlement Analyst must be committed to continued process improvement within the Team - identifying and evaluating target areas, prioritizing projects and implementation.
This position is part of a job family (Associate Business Settlement Analyst, Business Settlement Analyst, Senior Business Settlement Analyst), where experience will be the determining factor.
Job Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties required for monthly closing such that closing is accurate and on time
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise on the settlements of the competitive energy markets in which the Department transacts - currently, MISO
  • Develop and maintain a strong level of understanding of the operations of the competitive energy markets
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise on contracts, tariffs and market settlement rules and provide expert advice on rule-making issues that have a settlements impact
  • Communicate with various groups inside and outside the Company to investigate and resolve complex technical issues
  • Proactive investigation and resolution of market disputes and data errors related to market settlements
  • Represent and manage the interests/requirements of the Company in external forums and venues
  • Assist with the development, product implementation, enhancement, and testing of systems and processes in support of the market shadow settlement and billing systems
  • Identify detailed solutions and improvements to Settlement team procedures and software to improve accuracy, efficiency and timeliness
  • Interpret and apply the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Maintain accurate documentation
  • Provide settlement subject matter expertise to other Business Units and Departments within the Company

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or business-related discipline
  • Candidates must have strong analytical skills
  • The Associate Settlement Analyst requires a minimum of 1+ years of professional experience in power generation and transmission systems or related field preferred with an emphasis in accounting or finance. Education may be considered as applying towards the minimum experience requirement
  • The Settlement Analyst requires 3+ years of professional experience in power generation and transmission systems or related field preferred with an emphasis in accounting or finance
  • The Senior Settlement Analyst requires 5+ years of professional experience in power generation and transmission systems or related field preferred with an emphasis in accounting or finance
  • Candidates with a working knowledge of the Midwest ISO, PJM or other Energy Market are preferred, and general technical knowledge in power system operations is a plus
  • High proficiency in Excel, Word and IMPACT
  • Proficient in internet usage and accessing and using computer information systems with large amounts of data
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy are essential
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as individually
  • Experience delivering presentations with a technical subject matter
  • Experience leading projects from conception to completion or function as a project lead in a cross-functional setting
  • Possess a solid understanding of finance and accounting principles
  • To excel at the diverse challenges associated with this position, the candidate must be an energetic self-starter who possesses strong problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills
  • Must enjoy a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
  • Knowledge of Access, Oracle, or other database applications preferred

Pay Range Minimum: $68,436.68
Pay Range Maximum: $135,761.08
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
