Is SQL backend or frontend?

SQL is a language used for managing and querying databases, which are part of the backend infrastructure. A Senior Associate Frontend Developer typically works on the client-side interface and does not directly handle SQL or database management. Knowledge of SQL can be beneficial for understanding data flow but is not a core frontend skill.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Associate Frontend Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Associate Frontend Developer, you need advanced proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks like React or Angular, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), build tools (Webpack, npm), and familiarity with testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective collaboration and communication skills help you stand out in this role. These competencies are vital for delivering robust, user-friendly interfaces and ensuring smooth teamwork in fast-paced development environments.

What is the average salary for a senior front-end developer?

The average salary for a senior front-end developer typically ranges from $90,000 to $140,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and company size. Professionals with expertise in frameworks like React or Angular and strong UI/UX skills tend to earn higher salaries.

What are Senior Associate Frontend Developers?

Senior Associate Frontend Developers are experienced professionals responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the user-facing parts of web applications. They work with technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. In addition to coding, they often mentor junior developers, collaborate with designers and backend teams, and help ensure that applications are responsive, accessible, and high-performing. Their role typically involves both hands-on development and contributing to technical decisions within their team.

Is 40 too old to become a web developer?

Age is not a barrier to becoming a senior frontend developer, as many successful developers start or transition into the field later in life. Skills such as proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and experience with frameworks like React or Angular are more important than age, and continuous learning can help you stay competitive regardless of when you start.

How does a Senior Associate Frontend Developer typically collaborate with UX/UI designers and backend developers on projects?

As a Senior Associate Frontend Developer, you will regularly work alongside UX/UI designers to translate design mockups into functional, responsive interfaces. You'll also coordinate with backend developers to integrate APIs and ensure seamless data flow between the client and server. Effective communication and regular sync-ups are essential, as you'll often be responsible for bridging the gap between visual design and technical implementation, ensuring both usability and performance standards are met.

Will AI replace frontend devs?

As a Senior Associate Frontend Developer, AI tools can automate repetitive coding tasks and assist in design, but they are unlikely to fully replace skilled developers. Frontend development requires creativity, problem-solving, and understanding user experience, which AI cannot fully replicate. Developers will continue to adapt by integrating AI tools into their workflows to improve efficiency.

Job description

Overview
We're looking for a senior front-end web developer who cares deeply about the interactive details - design, animation, and behavior - that bring a brand to life. You'll join our design-driven team building custom websites from scratch for interesting clients.
You will lead end-to-end website development, choosing the appropriate tech stack (often Craft CMS), establishing technical architecture, crafting intuitive content authoring experiences, and writing resilient front-end code to allow clients to easily create new pages, and manage and evolve their sites post-launch.
Working closely with designers, content strategists, and project managers, you'll turn designs into fast, accessible, responsive, and animated websites. You'll contribute throughout the project lifecycle - from initial strategy, to wireframe and design reviews, technical architecture, front-end development, interactions and animations, to testing and final quality assurance.
You'll also collaborate with your peers on the development team to improve our processes and perform regular maintenance and enhancements to hosted client sites.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Define technical requirements through research and collaboration with designers and project stakeholders
  • Lead development on small to large-scale websites as the primary individual contributor
  • Architect and implement the CMS content editing experience for clients
  • Translate bespoke design mockups in Figma into modular, reusable front-end component systems
  • Propose and implement performant animations and interactions that enhance the user experience
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and responsive behavior across devices and platforms
  • Lead client-facing demos and technical discussions, bridging the gap between technical and non-technical teams
  • Perform quarterly maintenance to keep projects secure, stable, and up to date
  • Enhance and extend client sites to meet new business and audience needs
  • Contribute to internal tools, workflows, and development standards
  • Support teammates with development challenges

About You
  • 3+ years of experience in an agency or similar environment
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating attention to craft, detail, and design-led work
  • Deep appreciation for design, branding, and the role of front-end in shaping user experience
  • Passion for refined interfaces, thoughtful animation, and interactive experiences
  • Experience building modular systems with a CMS and reusable components
  • Mobile-first mindset with solid knowledge of common cross-browser issues
  • Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility, and SEO best practices
  • Familiar with WCAG AA accessibility standards
  • Experience or Interest in using AI to enhance the velocity of development or open up new possibilities
  • Comfortable working across multiple projects and navigating tight timelines
  • Excellent communicator who collaborates well with designers and other developers
  • Curious, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning and improvement

Nice to Have
  • Experience working with Craft CMS, Shopify, Wordpress, or Astro
  • Background in design or motion
  • Experience with animation libraries like GSAP or Framer Motion
  • Experience implementing Lottie or Rive animations
  • Familiarity with TailwindCSS and BEM methodology
  • Experience with PHP (Craft, WordPress, or Laravel)
  • Experience with front-end frameworks like React/Next or Vue
  • Experience with 3D or creative development (three.js, shaders, animations using canvas or WebGL)
  • Interest in CI/CD or DevOps workflows
