What Does a Senior Architect Do?

As a senior architect, your responsibilities are to oversee the plan for a construction project at an architectural firm from inception to completion. To accomplish this, you use CAD software, build models, iterate designs based on suggestions or customer requirements, and ensure the final plan complies with relevant building codes and other legislation (particularly the Americans with Disabilities Act, which imposes specific requirements on building designs). Your duties also include supporting a firm's marketing efforts, creating presentation materials, providing input on finishing and furniture choices, guiding builders, and making suggestions for the use of space. A senior architect position differs from a senior technology architect, which involves working with technology-building software and programming languages.

How does a Senior Architect typically collaborate with project managers and engineering teams during large-scale projects?

As a Senior Architect, you will regularly collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to ensure that architectural designs are feasible, align with project goals, and adhere to regulatory standards. This often involves participating in coordination meetings, reviewing technical drawings, and providing guidance on complex design challenges. Senior Architects play a key role in bridging creative vision with practical implementation, making effective communication and teamwork essential. You may also be responsible for mentoring junior team members and helping to resolve cross-disciplinary issues as they arise.

Their role requires a blend of creativity, technical expertise, leadership, and communication skills.

Projects include Shangri-La hotels, Four Seasons, and cutting-edge multi-family residences with amenities such as clubs, rooftops & bars, in NYC and San Francisco. The team also works with tech companies such as Google, mixed-use urban developments, and adaptive reuse projects in metropolitan areas! To continue their growth, their San Francisco studio is seeking a Senior Architect with over 10 years of experience to provide leadership, technical, and design support for the firm's projects around the world, mainly focused in the hospitality & housing sector.
