Job description

At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.
We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to join our team with a focus on aircraft interiors. This role is responsible for the design, development, and integration of both cargo and passenger interior solutions that are ergonomic, aesthetically refined, certifiable, and optimized for manufacturability. You will work across design engineering, manufacturing, certification, and customer experience teams to ensure that interior components meet functional requirements while elevating the user experience and supporting scalable production.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in interior design for regulated industries, a strong sense of ergonomics and human-centered design, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams through concept development, prototyping, and production readiness.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
  • Become intimately familiar with the aircraft's interior architecture, mission profiles, and operational requirements to guide the design of cargo and passenger interior systems
  • Lead the design and integration of interior components-including panels, liners, seating concepts, cargo restraints, storage solutions, lighting elements, and user-interface touchpoints
  • Ensure all interior designs meet ergonomic, human-factors, and aesthetic standards appropriate for both utility and passenger-focused missions
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to ensure interior components are optimized for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and long-term durability
  • Develop and maintain detailed CAD models, drawings, and specifications for interior components and assemblies, incorporating GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Partner with certification and quality teams to ensure compliance with applicable FAA regulations, flammability requirements, material standards, and conformity processes
  • Conduct material and process evaluations for interior applications, balancing weight, cost, manufacturability, and visual/ tactile quality.
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews, ensuring alignment across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer-facing teams
  • Support prototype builds, mock-ups, and user-experience evaluations to validate ergonomics, usability, and design intent.
  • Drive continuous improvement in interior design standards, documentation, and integration processes
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of Beta's interior design guidelines and best practices

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or another engineering field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in aircraft interiors, automotive interiors, industrial design, or other regulated, human-centered product development environments
  • Demonstrated experience leading interior design projects from concept through production
  • Strong understanding of ergonomics, human-factors engineering, and aesthetic design principles
  • Experience with interior materials and processes such as composites, thermoformed plastics, textiles, foams, and lightweight structural assemblies
  • Familiarity with FAA interior certification requirements, including flammability, crashworthiness, and occupant safety
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and engineering documentation, including GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
  • Ability to balance functional, aesthetic, and manufacturability considerations in a fast-paced development environment
  • Ability to work hard to meet ambitious goals and tight deadlines
  • Ability to remain self-motivated and persistent when navigating complex technical challenges
