Job description

A Hands-On Construction Sr. Accounting Manager/ Controller to strengthen the financial infrastructure of a growing construction organization. Must combine strong Construction accounting skills with forward looking financial analysis, sound judgment and a calm, even tempered leadership style. This role will oversee core accounting activity, produce reliable WIP and forecasts, support complex JV structures, improve systems and controls and lead a two-person Accounting team.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Billings, retainage, change orders, general ledger, reconciliations, payroll, month-end close and project financial reporting
  • WIP and timely forecasting, validate contract values, financial risk reporting
  • Financial Modeling providing 12, 24, & 36 month forecasting, cash flow models, backlog/revenue conversion models and project profitability models.
  • Joint ventures support for large and complex construction JV agreements including capital contributions distributions, allocations, reimbursements, shared costs, management fees and reporting requirements.
  • Premier Construction Software and Procore Software Systems; Strive to improve alignment between accounting, project controls budgets, change orders, and reporting
  • Supervision to include a two-person accounting team by defining roles, deadlines, controls, close procedures, cross-training and repeatable accounting processes.
  • Payroll and compliance - A union payroll, prevailing wage/Davis-Bacon requirements, fringe benefits, deductions, payroll reporting and labor cost allocation
  • Insurance and Audits - Will support Workers' Comp, General Liability, insurance audits, payroll, certificates, subcontractor documentation and required supporting schedules.


REQUIREMENTS

  • 7-10 years progressive Accounting experience with significant construction industry exposure
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and explain construction WIP schedules and project forecasts
  • Strong Job Costing, percentage of Completion, Cost to complete and cash flow knowledge
  • Advanced Excel skills and demonstrated financial modeling capability
  • Prior experience with large or complex construction JV structures strongly preferred
  • Experience with Premier Construction Software and Procore required
  • Experience with Union payroll, certified payroll, prevailing wage and construction insurance requirements
  • 5 years experience managing an Accounting team with defined goals and objectives and a positive mentoring attitude

  • Provide forecast modeling to ensure future revenue, margin, cash flow and identify risk
  • Evaluate and manage JV opportunities, growth decisions, staffing and risks before committing
  • Provide clear roles identification, cost controls, identify and keep deadlines, Month End Close
  • Provide reliable information, readily for banks, bonding, taxes, insurance, audits and JV partners
  • Demonstrate a calm, professional demeanor, a collaborative attitude, detail oriented, hands on and good people management
