Unit Notes
**2 sup references (at least a Charge) within the last 12 months worked is required for all Dignity SAC facilities AT TIME OF SUBMITTAL**
Unit: Ambulatory Treatment Center/ Infusion Center
# beds: 13 infusion chairs
Ratios: not applicable in an outpatient setting, but we try to limit to 4 active infusions at a time
Required certifications: CA RN license, BLS, ONS chemo/immunotherapy provider card
Common diagnoses/ types of patients: Oncology patients: all varieties of oncology diagnoses, with emphasis on Cisplatin/ FOLFOX/ FOLFIRI etc very long, complicated cases; Frequent management of hypersensitivity reactions; Oncology patients needing zometa/ reclast/ zoledronic acid; hydration; blood transfusions; various injections; Community patients: needing iron, reclast, albumin, blood transfusions, hydration, prolia injections, rabies series injections, long/ short term antibiotics;
Experience or must have skills: recent or active chemotherapy administrations skills; vascular access skills- peripheral IVs, port access, Hickman/ PICC maintenance; strong background of pharmacologic knowledge; strong ability to manage hypersensitivity reactions; strong skills in lab evaluations and relationship to oncology treatments
Are RNs required to titrate drips: Yes
Commons titratable and/ or set rate drips:
Titratable: IVIG, rituximab, remicade, IV Darzalex, ocrevus, blood transfusions
Charge RN/ house supervisor? Does the charge RN take an assignment? We currently have relief charge nurses that take an assignment. The hospital operates under a house supervisor from shift to shift.
Are there nurses aides on this unit/ ratios? We have a scheduler and manager who will step in when needed but not dedicated nurses aides. Most patients are ambulatory and independent with ADLs.
RT equipment: basic oxygen
Is there tele on this unit? Monitor tech? RNs read strips: no to all
Shifts & scheduling (Do you allow self scheduling? Block scheduling?) 8 hr days, the nurses self schedule, schedule is balanced and travelers are first to be adjusted, if needed
Weekend requirements: currently one weekend day per 4 week schedule
Holiday requirement: Largely governed by CNA contract; Manager did not have to mandate anyone for holidays last year, typically patient load is very light on these days
Is there call or a standby requirement: not at this time
Floating requirements: To the inpatient units to provide inpatient chemotherapy
Scrub color/ dress code: navy blue scrubs
Unit/ department specific orientation: off site orientation for 2-3 days, on site orientation with education department for 1 day; department orientation 2-3 days with blue book (competency completion)
