Power Electronics Engineer

Hampton, Georgia (Remote opportunities available based on team structure)

Position Summary

Lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced power conversion systems for high-voltage, grid infrastructure, and renewable energy applications. This role provides technical leadership in multilevel converter design, hardware integration, prototyping, efficiency improvement, and mentoring engineers while ensuring compliance with industry standards and performance requirements.

Job Function

  • Design and develop multilevel converter topologies and select appropriate switching devices for high-power applications.
  • Optimize converter performance for efficiency, harmonic reduction, and reliable high-voltage operation.
  • Lead hardware prototyping, integration, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Perform system modeling and simulation using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, or PLECS.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate power electronics into larger systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design and performance issues.
  • Manage component obsolescence and support lifecycle planning for existing hardware platforms.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Support quality initiatives, audits, and adherence to engineering procedures.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and project planning support.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in power electronics design with emphasis on multilevel converter topologies and high-voltage systems.
  • Experience leading hardware integration and prototyping projects from concept through validation.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in multilevel converters such as MMC and CHB architectures.
  • Experience with Si IGBTs, SiC MOSFETs, GaN devices, and other power semiconductor technologies.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE-based tools, and hardware prototyping techniques.
  • Strong understanding of EMI, thermal management, power loss calculations, and system reliability.
  • Knowledge of IEEE, IEC, UL, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Preferred: Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Electronics or Power Systems.
  • Preferred: Experience with FACTS, HVDC, renewable energy integration, FPGA/DSP programming, or advanced control strategies.
  • Preferred: Experience with PCB design tools and mechanical integration software.
