Job description

This is an advanced level technical work supporting higher level inspectors and engineers in roadway and bridge construction, and other functional areas such as construction acceptance inspection, verification of materials and testing. Involves a significant amount of decision making, use of judgement and may include providing direction to subordinates or contractors. 

Responsibilities 

  1. Technical proficiency that exceeds the requirements of an Inspector Aide.
  2. Must effectively communicate with Southeastern Engineering, Inc. Staff, Client, GDOT Staff, and contractors on jobsites.
  3. Must demonstrate a desire and behavior that projects harmony with diverse clients, peers, contractors, and management.
  4. If required, nights and weekend work may need to play a role to guarantee schedule compliance for the Client.
  5. Review plans to verify contractors are performing work safely and in accordance with the project plans and specifications to its established standards per client’s expectations.
  6. Must efficiently know how to inspect and measure materials to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions for the construction contract.
  7. Complete thorough daily notes in field books.
  8. Must be able to read and interpret plans, schedules, specifications, quantities, and shop drawings.
  9. Proficient technical writing skills
  10. Able to perform standard mathematical calculations.
  11. Perform a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized tests, keep up with GDOT Skills Testing as well as WECS, 10-Hour OSHA and GSWCC Level 1A or 1B card.
  12. Efficiently utilize all Southeastern Engineering, Inc. resources to complete the project. 
  13. Manage client’s expectations in terms of schedule, scope and budget.
  14. Effectively coordinate with various internal Southeastern Engineering, Inc. staff and departments to meet project’s goals.
  15. Additional duties as assigned.
  • 4-year college degree.
  • Level 1A or higher GSWCC, 10-Hour OSHA, Field Concrete Technician (GDOT Office of Materials and Testing), Worksite Erosion Control Certification (WECS Card through GDOT), GDOT Skills Engineering Tests Levels 1-3. These are not requirements, but if placed on a GDOT project, you will need to obtain these within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Strong Math Skills, HS Diploma or higher. 
  • MS Word and Excel skills is a plus.
