Description
Summary/Objective
Provides safety and protection for university students, guests, faculty, staff and their property while on campus. Provide building security and parking control. The safety and security officer works closely with law enforcement officials to enforce local, state, and federal laws. The officer is to enforce university regulations and report student conduct violations.
Essential Job Duties
• Conducts ongoing vehicle and foot patrol throughout the campus to inspect property and buildings to ensure that they are secure.
• Maintains fire and safety awareness and reports any problems.
• Enforces the policies included in the university vehicle regulations by issuing citations to violators.
• Secures and opens university buildings on a daily basis.
• Completes a daily report of activities and files other related reports for incidents which occur while on duty.
• Responds to emergency calls and other critical incidents on campus.
• Assures confidentiality of all safety and security records.
• Performs all duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Reports situations or events that could disrupt normal campus activity.
• Attends training events and maintains appropriate certifications as directed by the director of safety and security.
• Cooperates with local, state, and federal law enforcement officials to effectively enforce laws and maintain a safe campus.
• Helps promote an awareness of safety issues to the university community. Speaks to students, staff, and faculty about safety and security issues.
• Contributes to the overall success of the department of safety and security by performing all duties and responsibility as assigned.
• Sets an example of a Christian lifestyle for students.

Position Requirements
Required
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Computer and office equipment knowledge
• Possess a valid Missouri driver's license
Preferred
• One year of experience in safety and security
• Some collegiate level education
• Professional certifications in safety and security
Work Environment
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Extensive telephone and two-way radio use.
Physical Abilities
• Should be able to exert up to 100lbs of force occasionally and up to 10lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects
• Extensive walking and climbing
• Frequently standing, stooping, reaching, and extended periods of sitting
• Specific vision abilities are required for this position including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and get in and out of the vehicle frequently during each shift.
