Job description

BEI Construction is seeking a Security System Design Engineer for our low voltage division. This position will be primarily remote, with periodic office and site visits, and will report directly to the division's General Manager. Primary position responsibilities include technical design, programming, testing, and commissioning of division projects.


Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Ability to design complex physical security systems, particularly with Access Control, CCTV and Intrusion
  • Create and deliver engineering physical layout, system security designs, mark-ups and programming/commissioning close out documentation
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and diagrams to create or modify drawings using company design standards for customer and installation teams
  • Review of system design prior to installation and highlighting of any apparent technical, functional or compatibility issues with the design package while highlighting any deviation to client's standards
  • Build a complete bill of materials for our Project Management team
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for all union and non-union employees within the division
  • In-depth testing and troubleshooting of access control and IP network video systems
  • Population of programming sheets and responsible for system programming
  • Follow assigned projects to final adjustments, test, troubleshoot and rectify as part of the commissioning and signoff process
  • Ensure on-site clients are trained in the use of the installed system
  • Communicate progress on jobs and provide regular status reports to the Project Manager to enable efficient resource planning
  • Attend site meetings as required, representing the company in a professional manner.
  • Explain drawings to construction teams and engineers to provide adjustments as necessary
  • Review completed construction drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity to standards and regulations
  • Travel for site walkthroughs, bids, and oversight of installations will be required.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • 5+ year's industry experience working with security installations, servicing, or design
  • Relevant systems experience such as Lenel, Genetec, S2, OpenPath/other SaaS systems is required
  • Experience carrying out bids, completing BOMs and producing quotations is preferred
  • Competency to perform technology research and pass further manufacturer certifications
  • Ability to multitask, work with Project and CAD teams, and work independently
  • Effective communication with local service providers, clients, client project teams, and the BEI Project team
