Job description

A Security Installation Technician installs, configures, and maintains electronic safety and security systems. They work across residential, commercial, or municipal sites to set up burglar alarms, video surveillance (CCTV), access control mechanisms, and fire alarms. Their goal is to maximize property protection through technical troubleshooting and customer education.

Core Responsibilities

  • System Installation: Feed low-voltage cables through walls and mount hardware such as control panels, keypads, door contacts, and cameras.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Test circuits, backup batteries, and sensors. Trace and resolve wiring or hardware faults to restore full system functionality.
  • Site Assessment: Read building blueprints and wiring schematics to determine optimal equipment placement and ensure installations adhere to electrical and fire safety codes.
  • Client Consultation & Training: Educate customers on how to arm and disarm systems, change passwords, and understand how various features function.
  • Documentation: Complete service tickets, installation reports, and paperwork to track inventory and work hours.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Technical Skills: Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with an understanding of low-voltage electronics.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to safely lift heavy equipment (>50 lbs), work on ladders, and use standard hand and power tools.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to consult with clients effectively.
  • Licensing: A valid driver's license with a clean record is required. Many roles also require or prefer industry certifications such as NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies)

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
