How much do security hire felons jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for security hire felons in the United States is $26.61, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $21.15 and $30.53 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can security jobs hire felons?

Whether a security job can hire felons depends on the employer, the nature of the felony, and local or state regulations. Many security companies require employees to pass a background check, and having a felony conviction may disqualify candidates, especially for positions requiring a security license. However, some employers may consider hiring felons on a case-by-case basis, particularly if the conviction is old or unrelated to the job's responsibilities. It's important for applicants with felonies to be honest and to research the specific requirements in their state.

What skills and qualifications are needed to succeed as a security guard with a felony record?

To thrive as a Security Guard, essential skills include vigilance, physical fitness, basic security procedures, and often a high school diploma or equivalent, with employers typically requiring background checks that may consider but not always exclude felonies. Familiarity with surveillance systems, incident report software, and sometimes completion of state-mandated security training or certification are important. Strong communication, integrity, and de-escalation abilities set top candidates apart. These skills ensure the protection of people and property, effective incident management, and trustworthy interactions in diverse environments.

What challenges do security personnel with a felony background face, and how can they overcome them?

Security professionals with a felony background may encounter challenges such as building trust with employers and clients, as well as adapting to strict compliance requirements. Overcoming these obstacles often involves demonstrating reliability, maintaining transparency, and consistently adhering to workplace policies. Many employers offer mentorship or additional training to support new hires, and proactive communication with supervisors can help address any concerns early. Focusing on professionalism and leveraging any previous security or customer service experience can also enhance success in the role.
