What is a security evangelist?

Security Evangelists are professionals who advocate for cybersecurity best practices and raise awareness about security threats within organizations or the broader technology community. They often educate teams, speak at conferences, and create content to promote a culture of security. Their goal is to influence behavior and drive the adoption of secure practices through communication, training, and thought leadership. Security Evangelists typically have a strong technical background and a passion for keeping information and systems safe.

How does a security evangelist typically collaborate with technical and non-technical teams within an organization?

A Security Evangelist acts as a bridge between cybersecurity experts and broader organizational teams, translating complex security concepts into accessible messages for various audiences. They regularly work with technical teams to stay updated on the latest threats and best practices, while also partnering with marketing, sales, and executive leadership to promote security awareness and integrate security messaging into company initiatives. This role often involves conducting training sessions, hosting webinars, and representing the company at industry events, ensuring that security remains a shared responsibility across all departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a security evangelist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Security Evangelist, you need a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat landscapes, and industry standards, often complemented by a degree in computer science or information security. Familiarity with security tools such as SIEM platforms, vulnerability scanners, and certifications like CISSP or CISM is typical. Outstanding public speaking, storytelling, and relationship-building skills help translate complex technical topics to diverse audiences. These competencies are crucial for effectively promoting security awareness, influencing best practices, and bridging the gap between technical teams and stakeholders.

As our Biometric Evangelist, you'll support HID's success by:

  • Serving as the primary evangelist and subject matter expert for HID biometric reader solutions across end-user, partner, and internal stakeholder audiences.
  • Supporting internal and external customers by translating biometric reader capabilities into clear business, security, operational, and user-experience outcomes.
  • Partnering with Sales, Business Development, Product, Marketing, and Sales Engineering to build awareness, pipeline influence, and adoption of biometric reader solutions.
  • Delivering customer-facing presentations, executive briefings, demos, webinars, podcasts, conference sessions, and other public speaking engagements.
  • Creating and maintaining market-facing content, sales enablement materials, social posts, talk tracks, FAQs, and thought leadership assets that support biometric reader adoption.
  • Representing HID in public forums and industry conversations while reinforcing HID's trusted identity, security, and innovation positioning.
  • Developing and executing an evangelism plan that increases awareness and confidence in HID biometric reader solutions across priority vertical markets.
  • Collaborating with field teams to support strategic end-user opportunities, customer workshops, partner meetings, and account planning activities.
  • Gathering voice-of-customer, market, and competitive insights and share actionable feedback with Product, Marketing, and Commercial leadership.
  • Supporting launch, enablement, and adoption efforts for biometric reader solutions, including messaging, training, demos, event content, and customer proof points.
  • Maintaining a strong external presence through public speaking, podcasts, industry panels, webinars, social media, and customer-facing content development.
  • Traveling as needed to support customer engagements, industry events, field ride-alongs, internal meetings, and strategic partner activities.

Your Experience and Background include:

  • Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders, senior leaders, and cross-functional teams without direct authority, driving alignment and action across commercial, product, marketing, and customer organizations.
  • Experience in physical access control, identity, security technology, biometrics, credential technology, or a related technology market.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, business-focused way for executive, technical, and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting customers, sales teams, partners, or field organizations in a consultative or evangelist capacity.
  • Strong presentation, public speaking, content creation, and executive communication skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently and engage effectively in customer meetings, conferences, internal meetings, and field activities.
  • Legal authorization to work in the hiring country and ability to comply with all relevant HID policies and procedures.
  • Experience with biometric readers, biometric modalities, identity verification, PACS, access control hardware, mobile credentials, or cyber-physical security solutions is preferred.
  • Existing relationships or experience within key vertical markets such as Education, Healthcare, Critical Infrastructure, Finance, Commercial, Technology, or Government is preferred.
  • Experience creating thought leadership content, speaking at industry events, participating in podcasts, or building a professional social presence is preferred.
  • Experience partnering with Product, Marketing, Sales Engineering, and Commercial teams to support solution launches or category evangelism is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of customer adoption barriers, privacy considerations, change management, and stakeholder education related to biometric technologies is preferred.
