Job Title Information Security Analyst (Microsoft Environment) Job Description
The Information Security Analyst supports the protection of the College's Microsoft-based environment by monitoring, detecting, and helping respond to cybersecurity risks. The Analyst performs day-to-day security monitoring, alert triage, vulnerability tracking, and reporting across Microsoft Active Directory, Azure (Entra ID), Defender, Purview, and Sentinel, and assists in maintaining the College's security posture and compliance efforts.
Job Duties
Security Monitoring & Incident Response
  • Monitor security alerts and events using Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel
  • Investigate suspicious activity, incidents, and potential breaches
  • Perform initial triage and assist the Information Security Engineer with containment, eradication, and recovery
  • Follow incident response procedures and playbooks and recommend updates
  • Coordinate with internal teams during security incidents and escalations
Identity & Access Management
  • Assist with administration of accounts and groups in Microsoft Active Directory and Azure AD (Entra ID)
  • Support user lifecycle processes including provisioning, deprovisioning, and periodic access reviews
  • Apply established role-based access control (RBAC) and least privilege standards
  • Support multi-factor authentication (MFA) and conditional access policies maintained by the Information Security Engineer
Cloud Security Management
  • Monitor security controls within Microsoft Azure environments
  • Review Azure resources, subscriptions, and services for secure configuration and report gaps
  • Monitor cloud environments for misconfigurations and compliance gaps
  • Support secure cloud architecture and deployment practices
  • Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams to apply security standards
Threat Detection & Analysis
  • Analyze logs and telemetry from Microsoft Sentinel, Defender, and other tools
  • Assist with tuning detection rules, alerts, and analytics queries
  • Support threat hunting activities to help identify risks
  • Correlate threat intelligence with internal data sources
  • Document findings and recommend remediation
Vulnerability Management
  • Perform vulnerability assessments across Microsoft platforms
  • Track and help coordinate patch management and remediation efforts
  • Track and prioritize vulnerabilities based on risk and impact
  • Validate remediation activities and perform follow-up testing
  • Report on vulnerability status and trends
Security Policy & Best Practices Support
  • Assist with reviewing and maintaining security policies, standards, and procedures
  • Help align security practices with Microsoft and industry frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS)
  • Conduct periodic policy reviews and updates
  • Monitor adherence to security standards across systems and users
  • Provide recommendations for improving security posture
Collaboration & User Support
  • Partner with IT, network, and application teams to resolve security issues
  • Provide guidance on secure use of Microsoft technologies
  • Support end users with security-related concerns and access issues
  • Support security awareness and training initiatives
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for Microsoft security tools and services
Reporting & Documentation
  • Maintain documentation for security processes, incidents, and configurations

  • Prepare findings and recommendations for review by the Information Security Engineer and leadership
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and service levels
  • Support audit and compliance documentation requirements
Microsoft Purview & Microsoft Sentinel
  • Assist with monitoring Microsoft Purview compliance solutions, including data loss prevention, data classification, retention policies, insider risk management, and eDiscovery.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and metrics related to compliance posture, security incidents, and risk management activities.
  • Assist the Information Security Engineer with Microsoft Sentinel analytics rules, workbooks, automation playbooks, and threat detection use cases.
  • Monitor security alerts and incidents within Microsoft Sentinel and support investigation, containment, and remediation activities.
  • Help apply data governance and compliance controls within Microsoft Purview to support institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with onboarding Microsoft Sentinel data sources to improve visibility across enterprise systems and networks.
  • Collaborate with IT and departmental stakeholders to identify sensitive data, apply security policies, and reduce organizational risk.
  • Conduct threat hunting, log analysis, and security monitoring activities to identify suspicious or unauthorized activity.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures related to data protection and monitoring. Stay current with Microsoft security technologies, emerging cyber threats, and industry best practices to improve the institution's security posture.
Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with Microsoft security technologies and updates
  • Research emerging threats and evolving cybersecurity trends
  • Recommend enhancements to tools and processes
  • Participate in training, certifications, and professional development
  • Supports data security initiatives and projects designed to mitigate risk and strengthen the college's security posture.
Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
(M2) Minimum 2 years of experience in cybersecurity.
(M3) At least one year of hands-on experience with Microsoft security tools (such as Defender, Sentinel, Entra ID, or Purview).
(M4) Excellent oral and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments.
(M5) Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Azure (Entra ID), Defender, Purview, and Sentinel.
Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
(D2) Minimum 3 years of experience in IT systems or endpoint administration.
(D3) At least three years managing devices through Microsoft Active Directory, Azure (Entra ID), Defender, Purview, and Sentinel.
(D4)
Experience with hardware procurement (Dell and Apple) and device lifecycle management.
(D5) Strong understanding of Windows and macOS setup, configuration, and deployment.
