About The Role

At Lockstep, a Managed Services Network Engineer II is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting client network environments to ensure the stability, security, and performance of data, voice, and video communications. This role manages network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies; identifies and resolves complex network issues; performs upgrades and maintenance; and collaborates with internal teams and clients to support business objectives.


What You'll Own

  • Network implementation: Install, configure, and deploy network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Network monitoring and troubleshooting: Monitor network performance, identify and diagnose issues, and resolve connectivity, bandwidth, and security problems.
  • Network maintenance and upgrades: Perform routine maintenance, apply software updates, and implement network upgrades to maintain optimal functionality.
  • Security management: Implement and maintain network security measures, including access controls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and data encryption.
  • Capacity planning: Analyze network usage and forecast future needs to ensure sufficient bandwidth and resource allocation.
  • Vendor management: Work with network equipment vendors to resolve technical issues and negotiate contracts.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintain detailed network documentation and generate reports on network performance and health.
  • Collaboration with other teams: Work closely with Systems Engineers, Security Engineers, and other IT teams to ensure seamless network integration and support.
  • Assist with escalations from Systems Engineers.
  • Support implementation activities, maintenance windows, cutovers, project deployments, and occasional emergency response efforts which may require evening or weekend work.
Requirements:

What We're Looking For

Key Technical Skills:

  • 3–5 years of experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise network environments, preferably within a managed services, consulting, or multi-site organization.
  • Networking protocols: In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and network security protocols.
  • Network device configuration: Expertise in configuring network devices, including Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Troubleshooting skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
  • System administration skills: Understanding of operating systems, system management tools, and scripting languages.
  • Security awareness: Knowledge of network security best practices and threat mitigation strategies.
  • Analytical skills: Ability to analyze network performance data and identify potential issues.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Meraki CMSS, Meraki ECMS, Meraki CMNA, Aruba Certified Switching, or PCNSA.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Aruba Certified ClearPass Professional, or Azure Network Engineer Associate.
