Job description

*This position is eligible to be hired at the Senior Analyst or Consultant level, depending on the skills, qualification, and experience of the candidate.
Position Summary:
The Securian Financial Law Department seeks an experienced attorney to join its Affinity Solutions legal team, comprised of lawyers, paralegals, and compliance professionals. As part of this team, you will support the legal needs of Securian Financial and its Affinity Solutions division, which provides insurance and consumer financial services solutions through banks, credit unions, finance companies, association groups, and other distribution partners. The successful candidate will bring established legal experience, sound judgment, creativity, and a pragmatic approach that balances business objectives with effective risk management.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Serve as a strategic legal advisor to Affinity Solutions on insurance, regulatory, product, distribution, and related business matters.
  • Your primary focus:
  • Provide legal support for direct-response insurance programs, including product design and development, policy and form review, distribution, sales and advertising materials, and ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Advise on property and casualty insurance matters and help develop the team's capabilities in emerging surplus-lines products and distribution models.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison for market conduct matters affecting Affinity Solutions, including state regulatory inquiries, examinations, and coordination with compliance and regulatory partners.
  • You will also have opportunities to:
  • Monitor and analyze legislative, regulatory, and industry developments and translate complex legal requirements into practical, easy-to-understand guidance for management, business partners, and external clients.
  • Support debt protection, credit insurance, bank partnership, and digital lending matters, including applicable federal and state consumer financial protection laws and regulations.
  • Draft and negotiate business-related agreements and participate in strategic projects, new product initiatives, trade association activities, and other matters supporting Affinity Solutions.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed and in good standing to practice law in Minnesota, or eligible to become licensed in Minnesota within a reasonable period.
  • 5+ years of legal experience in a law firm, government, or in-house setting, with meaningful experience in insurance law, consumer financial services law, financial institution regulation, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform core legal skills, including legal research, analysis, drafting, negotiation, advocacy, and counseling on complex regulatory matters.
  • Practical, business-oriented judgment and a strong ability to balance business objectives, customer needs, and legal and regulatory risk within Securian's risk appetite.
  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills, including the ability to translate technical legal concepts for management, regulators, clients, and internal business partners.
  • Versatility, professionalism, and the ability to collaborate effectively, work independently, prioritize competing demands, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

#LI-Hybrid **This position will have a hybrid working arrangement, working in-office for a minimum of 3 days a week.**

The estimated base pay range for this job is:
$110,000.00 - $180,000.00
