Job description

Location: East Chicago, IN

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Section Manager Maintenance, in our Steel Producing department at our Indiana Harbor Operation in East Chicago, Indiana.Ideal candidates enjoy hands-on, collaborative environments and are willing to seize opportunities to develop themselves. Section Managers provide leadership in ensuring teams work together safely to efficiently produce and deliver quality steel products to our customers.


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. Perform safety, quality, and environmental audits on a timely basis.

  • Uphold and enforce safety, environmental, job procedures and maintain general discipline of the crew.

  • Monitor the operation and intercede promptly with corrective actions, coordinating multiple disciplines in the execution of these duties.

  • Conduct Pre-Job Safety Meetings with contractors on major jobs to ensure work is completed safely.

  • Able to identify and solve electrical and mechanical problems quickly on heavy duty equipment, make recommendations to achieve desired improvements, and communicate process improvement ideas to workforce that promote reliability, quality, and productivity.

  • Communicate with upstream and downstream operations and non-Cleveland-Cliffs Steel contractors to coordinate work, deliveries, and service.

  • Knowledge of safety and health policies including key components of the OSHA regulations ASTM specifications.

  • Work with and provide input and direction to maintenance managers for equipment repairs required for safe, efficient production.

  • Reduce equipment delays and repair costs, by reviewing delays on all equipment, and approving the preventive maintenance plan and the inspection program.

  • Foster a positive relationship with bargaining unit workforce and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in industrial/manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proven team building skills, works well with others of diverse backgrounds, and able to motivate others.

  • Demonstrated communication (verbal and written), analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Must be able to work in a hot, dusty environment. Climbing stairs, ladders, and walking inclines. Able to work/walk safely on uneven surfaces. Able to work outdoors in all weather.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Leadership.

  • Strong leadership and team building skills.

  • Strong production planning and execution background.

  • Knowledgeable in Slab Yard or production operations.
