Job description

Description:

The Section Grower is responsible for the execution of care and proper maintenance of the plants postproduction. Full-time with average week 40-50 hours; must be willing to work additional hours as needed and be prepared to work in all weather conditions (rain or shine) at tasks that are sometimes physically demanding. Weekend work is required when scheduled.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of basic growing techniques

• Horticultural knowledge and understanding the use of perennials, grasses, ferns and vines

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing (including electronic communication), as well as having effective listening skills

• Must be able to do simple math calculations and conversions

• Must have solid knowledge of pesticide safety and application techniques

• Be able to obtain a PA Pesticide applicators license


Responsibilities

• Maintain plant health and quality through proper irrigation, fertilization and pest control techniques

• Responsible for maintenance and reporting of plant inventory changes in the shipping/growing facility, and informing Inventory Manager

• Perform regular testing to assure proper soil chemistry and plant nutrition

• Maintain a clean and organized growing area free of weeds

• Make pesticide applications as required and follow standard work procedures to ensure compliance with all state and federal laws

• Make recommendations regarding improved operating policies and procedures
