Northrop Grumman Strategic Deterrent Systems division is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer / Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer for the Air Vehicle Equipment (AVE) Integration and Test (I&T) Lab Design and Integration (D&I) team. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.

What You'll Get to do:

The selected candidate will be responsible for the architecture, development, and delivery of multiple cable/harness engineering design solutions. This role provides the opportunity to be a technical expert/lead, take ownership of the Special Test Equipment (STE) statement of work from concept design to product delivery, and to be one of the recognized Subject Matter Experts (SME's) within the team for Cable, Harness, and Instrumentation.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Support the development of the lab Operational Concepts (OPSCON) to maximize the utility of test resources while meeting schedule and technical requirements and/or constraints Support the development of HW acceptance test requirements and procedures
  • Define and develop the electrical drawing tree and interconnect diagrams for the test line
  • Convert system level requirements from systems engineering into cable/harness requirements
  • Assist in establishing harness/cable routing and segmentation
  • Perform voltage drop analysis and capacitance studies
  • Provide support to Manufacturing, Procurement, Lab Integration and Test
  • Design and implement Test and Measurement systems in a lab space.
  • Perform Technical Lead review and provide sign off on electrical harness and wiring diagrams.
  • Mentor engineers on cable/harness design and interconnects

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Electrical Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with 5 years or experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of experience; PhD with 1 years of experience
  • Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and with 8 years or experience; or Master's degree with 6 years of experience; or PhD with 4 years of experience.
  • 3+ years of experience using CAD design tools (i.e. NX, CATIA, Capital, etc.).
  • 3+ years of cable/harness design experience, preferably following military and/or aviation standards.

Required for Both Levels:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope (< 6 yrs), with an ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
  • At least 1 year of experience with basic data signal types (MIL-STD-1553, RS-422, CAN etc.).
  • At least 1 year of experience with harness fabrication, component (back-shell, connector, cable and wire) selection and installation processes with hands-on experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience with Parts, Materials and Processes for electrical harness related to power distribution, RF, communication and high-speed data signal applications, as well as manufacturing support.
  • Familiarity with industry cable and harness standards such as: IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739.4 and AS50881.
  • Ability to effectively communicate issues and help provide solutions across multiple teams/disciplines
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has been previously approved for Special Access Program (SAP)
  • Electrical Engineering degree
  • Proficiency with Siemens Capital (AKA Mentor Capital) or similar E-CAD program
  • Experience in design tools such as Microsoft Visio, RapidHarness, Capital, Teamcenter, etc.
  • Experience in creating a PDP or PDP-like PLM product
  • Experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM product
  • Experience with wire gauge sizing, voltage drop analysis, and derating analysis.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical or instrumentation system development and design.
  • Experience with Data Acquisition and Instrumentation systems.
  • Experience with EMI/RF principles and their application to harness shielding.
  • Experience in leading/supporting a development engineering team

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
