Job description

Position Summary:

The 2nd Shift Manager oversees the daily operations of 2nd Shift Production and Fabrication departments to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety standards are consistently met. This role is responsible for managing personnel, maintaining equipment and inventory, and improving processes to meet production deadlines and customer expectations.  This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with standard working hours of 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday with additional hours, including Fridays, as needed to support the operation.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations & Performance Tracking
    • Monitor and report performance metrics for each department and hold team members accountable.
    • Based on department priorities, ensure all team members are completing the tasks assigned. 
    • Refine the daily plan based on current conditions on shift.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Monitor employee time tracking to ensure accurate job clocking and time balancing in GSS (ERP System).
    • Resolve employee conflicts promptly and professionally.
    • Attend daily startup meetings; coach and support department team leaders to improve effectiveness.
    • Identify team members in need of additional training and arrange internal and external training as needed.
    • Provide coaching and feedback to develop department team members and enhance their skills.
  • Quality Control
    • Establish and maintain technician level quality checks to ensure the highest level of quality standards are consistently met.
    • Report all rework and quality issues to department managers including root cause and any corrective actions taken.
  • Process Knowledge & Improvement
    • In-depth understanding of all department processes.
    • Expand technical knowledge of department functions through continuous learning and professional development.
  • Process & Documentation
    • Ensure all safety concerns and incidents are reported promptly and appropriate care is provided.
    • Review and update process and procedure documentation annually.
    • Support maintenance with their daily tasks.
    • Collaborate with other managers to exchange feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Actively demonstrate a commitment to mission and Core Values of Credibility, Accountability, Leadership and Fairness
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience leading teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to coach, train, and lead a diverse team
  • Knowledge of Powder Coat, Fabrication and Welding systems and related equipment is a plus
  • Excellent communication and time management abilities
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and production tracking software (ERP System GSS)
