Position Summary

The Barista is responsible for crafting and serving high-quality, maman standard beverages while delivering exceptional service. This role requires technical coffee skills, efficiency, and a guest-first mindset. The Barista consistently upholds maman beverage standards, maintains a clean and DOH compliant workstation, and builds strong relationships with guests through warm, personalized hospitality.

Essential ResponsibilitiesBeverage Quality & Production
  • Prepare and serve the full beverage menu in accordance with maman's established recipes and beverage standards.

  • Ensure beverage consistency, quality, and presentation across all drinks.

  • Maintain service time standards, with drinks served within 8 minutes on weekdays and 10 minutes on weekends.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in espresso preparation, milk texturing, and basic latte art.

  • Accurately read and execute POS tickets, including sizes, modifiers, and dine-in versus to-go orders.

Guest Experience & Hospitality

  • Deliver warm, genuine, and personalized service to every guest, consistently following all steps of service (Smile, Engage, Name, Thank You) in every guest interaction.

  • Build rapport with returning guests and foster relationships with regulars through thoughtful, personalized service and providing updates on seasonal specials and menu changes.

  • Communicate menu offerings clearly, including ingredients and allergy-related information, to support informed guest choices.

  • Anticipate guest needs and provide proactive, attentive service.

  • Address guest concerns professionally and courteously, escalating issues to the leader on shift when necessary.

Service & Operations

  • Maintain an organized, efficient bar workflow to support speed and accuracy during service.

  • Operate in close coordination with front-of-house team members to ensure seamless service, supporting other positions during slower periods, embracing cross-training and a team-first approach.

  • Follow established steps of service and operational procedures to ensure consistency and quality.

  • Flexibility to work with various FOH positions including counter service, runner and/or server based on business needs.

Cleanliness & Maintenance

  • Maintain the barista station to DOH standards at all times, including proper care of rags, steam wands, pitchers, grinders, pitcher rinsers, counters, and milk storage.

  • Complete opening and closing tasks as assigned, including FIFO practices, DOH checks, and end of day email correspondence with collaboration with the rest of the FOH team.

  • Support daily, weekly, and monthly deep-cleaning tasks as assigned.

  • Promptly report safety hazards, equipment issues, or maintenance needs to the leader on shift.

Team Support

  • Work collaboratively with FOH and BOH teams to maintain smooth service and high standards.

  • Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in multiple roles as business needs require.

  • Maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times, even in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.

  • Perform additional tasks and ad hoc projects as assigned to support daily operations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of barista experience.

  • Ability to pass a barista skills evaluation.

  • Working knowledge of espresso preparation, micro-foam milk texturing, and basic latte art.

  • Strong understanding of POS tickets, modifiers, and beverage offerings.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and special events, unless pre-approved to work a specific schedule at hiring as per business needs.

  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks related to the role, including being able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a high-volume or specialty coffee environment.

  • A positive attitude, strong sense of humor, and ability to contribute to a fun, team-oriented culture.

  • Passion for hospitality and a sweet tooth for cookies is a plus.

  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership over the guest experience.
