Job description

Job Title: Seasonal Produce Teammate
Description: To deliver a great guest experience while pricing, stocking, and rotating merchandise in the Produce Department.

Responsibilities:
  • To greet and respond to all guest questions or requests, and explain store policies in a courteous manner.
  • To sell, wrap, and package merchandise for guests to purchase.
  • Process guests special orders or requests.
  • Prepare and organize the cooler, freezer, preparation area for receipt of merchandise, unload trucks, verify the merchandise against the invoice, inspect the delivery for shortages, damage, and quality, sort cases for stocking or product preparation and code date the product.
  • Clean department floors, mirrors, case, tables, cooler, freezer, equipment, preparation area, and shelves while safely using cleaning equipment and cleaning and sanitation chemicals.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and visually appealing department to increase guest sales.
  • Ensure the safety of self, guests and teammates by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a supervisor of any potential hazard immediately.
  • Pick remove all broken containers, packing materials, and boxes from the sales floor or product preparation area immediately.
  • Understand the operation, safety requirements and restraints of a baler, garbage disposal, juicer, pineapple corer, case cutter, pallet jack, forklift, intercom, pricing gun, knife, and wrapper (must be 18 years or older to operate the pallet jack, baler, knife, cutter, and forklift).
  • To count and record individual merchandise for inventory.
  • To change department pricing as directed and manually price mark or label merchandise without an UPC code.
  • To evaluate product quality and move damaged or unwanted products from the case to the preparation area, re-processing the merchandise into a saleable form or marking the product down in price.
  • To use the proper case opening and product stacking techniques to prevent damage to product.
  • To remove trash from the aisle or product preparation area and operate the baler.
  • To change signs, light bulbs, shelf signs, tags, and price markers on the case and shelf display.
  • To communicate with the department manager on problems, recommendation and merchandising ideas.
  • To check case, cooler, and freezer temperatures 4 times daily.
  • To replenish supplies on the sales floor and in the product preparation area.
  • To record "out-of-stock" conditions and the time they occur and report it to the department manager.
  • To prepare, package and label products, slice whole fruits and vegetables, salads, fruit baskets, nuts, candy, popcorn.
  • Ensure that the country of origin labelling is on all items that are not individually labelled
  • Adhere to FIFO (First in, first out) stocking rules, consistently rotating product on the sales floor, and pulling the oldest cases from the back room to stock with.
  • To perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substituting for absent workers and performing any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to guests during peak periods of business.

Work Environment:
  • Inside work with extreme variations in temperature, dust and humidity from back door, compressors, cooler, and preparation area.

Qualifications:

  • Basic mathematical ability (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and count)
  • Ability to make good judgement and proper decision making.
  • Able to give, receive complex verbal instructions, descriptions to, from supervisors or teammates, concerning store, department policy, procedures and use of equipment.
  • Make judgments concerning the placement of merchandise on the case, shelf, display, case opening procedures, extent of unsalable product damage, conversation with guests, selling of product, display of product, use of packaging materials for product, quality of product for display and ordering of merchandise.
  • Good interpersonal communications.
