Job description

Accounting Manager

Our client has supplied crushed stone, recycled concrete, sand, gravel, and on-site crushing for 30+ years, so construction, transportation, and infrastructure projects across Suburban Maryland, Northern Virginia, DC, and Baltimore stay on schedule. As Accounting Manager, you will lead an accounting team of 4 and will own the numbers that keep our clients' 60 employees and trucks rolling, plants crushing, and customers paid on time—turning accurate job costs, cash flow, and compliance into the fuel for our next decade of growth.

Performance Objectives
  • Close the books by the 10th of each month with 99% accuracy and deliver job-cost and fleet reports that owners use to bid work and buy equipment.
  • Cut days sales outstanding by 15% in year one by tightening collections, credit terms, and daily communication with contractors and haulers.
  • Stand up true job costing for on-site crushing, screening, hauling and disposal so every project shows real margin before the next bid goes out.
  • Process AP/AR for 50+ vendors and customers so suppliers are paid on time and our reputation for reliability stays intact.
  • Lead the annual review and tax package with zero material adjustments while keeping us audit-ready year-round.
  • Build rolling 13-week cash-flow forecasts that fund seasonal inventory, equipment moves and new crushing plants without surprises.
  • Train and coach 4 accounting staff so the function scales as volume grows.
Environment & Resources

You report directly to the owner in their Temple Hills office; you will be the senior finance voice. Tools: QuickBooks, Excel, bank portals; budget available for better job-cost software. Occasional yard or plant visits to understand crushing, screening, and truck operations. You will also have a hand in accounting system upgrades

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance;
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role; strong knowledge of GAAP; advanced Excel skills; proficiency with accounting software; construction or related industry experience preferred.
  • Proven monthly close, job costing, and cash-flow forecasting you can show.
  • Comfortable owning AP, AR, payroll, and sales-tax filings without a large staff.
  • Strong Excel (pivots, lookups, basic modeling) and QuickBooks or similar.
  • Ability to explain numbers to operators and owners in plain language.

Role Selling Points
  • Family-owned, 30-year track record and a growing recycled-concrete business that actually matters to local infrastructure.
  • Direct line to the owner—your forecasts and cost data drive real equipment and bidding decisions, not slide decks.
  • Small, no-politics team where on-time delivery and communication are the culture, not slogans.
  • Chance to professionalize finance as we add plants and trucks across the DMV.
