Job description

Copywriter

Iconic. Approachable. Connected. These are some of the ideas that guide our every day at Janie and Jack. We set ourselves apart with outstanding quality and great care for every detail, from our clothing to our customer service to the people we work with. Are you ready to be a part of the Janie and Jack story?

About the job:

The Copywriter is part of the Brand Creative Services team and is responsible for bringing the brand voice to life across all marketing needs, from emails to social projects and print projects too. In this role, you should be a creative problem solver who continually pushes the brand voice forward. Detail-oriented and highly organized, you’re passionate about creating witty and unexpected editorial copy across all channels (in the right tone, of course). You’ll also collaborate with the Copy Manager to brainstorm seasonal storytelling and promotional ideas, as well as work cross functionally with Graphic Designers, the Web Marketing team and Social Media & Marketing Managers.

What you’ll do:

  • Write smart, unexpected copy in the brand voice with the right tone.
  • Understand and develop a balance of creative and strategic messaging, keeping the customer experience top of mind.
  • Have a firm understanding of retail and best practices, from what is happening in the marketplace to the latest copy trends.
  • Be able to take direction and be flexible through changes in strategy and creative direction, all while keeping a healthy morale.
  • Work well independently and collaborate with the Copy Manager and Graphic Designers as well as with cross functional partners, such as Social Media & Marketing Managers.
  • Deliver all copy on time and error-free.
  • Edit and proofread with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Keep the Copy Manager updated on project status, initiatives and key issues.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 1 – 3 years professional Copywriting experience.
  • Retail experience required.
  • A writer’s writer with creative chops, along with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Firm understanding of retail, what is happening in the marketplace and copy trends.
  • Ability to take direction and be flexible through changes in strategy while staying calm (a sense of humor helps too!)
  • Ability to deliver error-free copy under tight deadlines, be self-reliant and collaborative as needed.
  • Online portfolio required.

Why You’ll Love Working With Us:

  • The Product—so good, you’ll be using your employee discount more than you probably should.
  • The People—ask anyone that works here…we have incredible people on our team.
  • The Experience—you’ll enjoy a rewarding career at a respected children’s brand.

Actual starting pay for this role is determined by a wide array of factors including but not limited to qualifications, experience, relevant skills,, education, and geographic location. Employees are offered a variety of benefits to empower them with the resources and flexibility they need to enjoy success on the job and to live a healthy life. Full-time employees are eligible for medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, health and dependent care FSA, life/ad&d insurance, short term and long term disability, commuter benefits, pet benefits, tuition reimbursement, paid time off and 401(k) including matching. All employees are eligible for employee discounts and EAP Resources. All regular, full-time Brand Support Center employees are eligible for the annual discretionary bonus plan.

Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
