Executive Pastry Chef Job Description

Confectionary & Company – Sumter, SC

Position Summary

Confectionary & Company is seeking an experienced, creative, and motivated Executive Pastry Chef to lead our bakery and dessert production operations. This role is responsible for maintaining a fully stocked bakery case daily, producing desserts for Quixote Hospitality restaurant concepts, creating custom wedding cakes and specialty desserts for catered events and weddings, and leading kitchen staff through training, organization, and execution.

The ideal candidate is passionate about pastry arts, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has strong leadership and production management skills.

Key Responsibilities

Bakery & Dessert Production

  • Prepare and bake a wide variety of pastries, cakes, cookies, breads, desserts, and specialty confections
  • Maintain a fresh, visually appealing, and fully stocked bakery case throughout daily operations
  • Develop seasonal desserts and rotating bakery offerings
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation standards across all baked goods

Restaurant Dessert Program

  • Produce and supply desserts for Quixote Hospitality restaurant locations
  • Coordinate production schedules to meet restaurant and catering demands
  • Collaborate with culinary leadership on menu development and dessert features
  • Maintain efficient inventory and prep systems for high-volume dessert production

Wedding Cakes & Special Events

  • Design, bake, decorate, and execute custom wedding cakes and specialty desserts
  • Meet with clients as needed to discuss cake designs, tastings, and event expectations
  • Ensure wedding and event desserts are completed on time and delivered to specification
  • Create high-quality finishes and artistic presentations for upscale events

Leadership & Kitchen Management

  • Lead, train, and mentor bakery and pastry staff
  • Manage daily kitchen workflow, prep lists, and production timelines
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented kitchen culture
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Assist with ordering ingredients, inventory management, and cost control
  • Monitor product quality and maintain operational standards

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of pastry or bakery leadership experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of baking techniques, cake decorating, and dessert production
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work early mornings and weekends
  • Passion for creativity, hospitality, and guest experience

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced cake decorating and piping techniques
  • Experience in high-volume bakery or restaurant production

Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000
