Product Operations Manager - PLM Product Data

Burton, MI • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 14 days ago

Job description

The Breakdown

The Product Operations team is the connective function of Burton's Product Development organization. We are responsible for the intake, resourcing, transparency, and execution tracking of the work that brings physical products to life across outerwear, apparel, accessories, boots, boards, bindings, and more.

Reporting into the Director of Product Operations, the Product Operations Manager – PLM Product Data is responsible for ensuring that accurate, complete information lives in the right systems at the right time, and that the processes governing how that data moves through our business are well-designed and consistently followed. This role sits at the intersection of operational rigor and cross-functional impact and involves hands-on management of our PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system including data entry, scrubbing, validation, and coordination of key calendar dates and data related processes. The ideal candidate is a proactive master of data management with experience in PLM systems, process creation, and system improvements.

What You Get to Do

  • Product Data & Systems
    • Own the accuracy and completeness of product data in our PLM system across the full product creation cycle for all Burton product categories.
    • Execute key seasonal data tasks including: colorway creation and assignment, PH4 hierarchy setup, SKU and item number creation, filterable attribute loads, forecast loading and validation, carryover scrubs, M3-ready reviews, and year-over-year data mapping.
    • Maintain Product Change Lists as operational records of all product data and ensure updates flow accurately through downstream systems (M3, BDW, Nexus, Salsify).
    • Serve as the organization's PLM and Product Data subject matter expert
    • Partner closely with the Business Integration Office (IT/BIO) to support data system initiatives and serve as the cross-functional voice of Product in that partnership
    • Collaborate with cross functional groups to gather, organize, and maintain product data required for regulatory and traceability reporting (e.g., PFAS/TSCA, CPSC filings).
  • Process Design & Improvement
    • Identify inefficiencies in how product data is captured, validated, and communicated across teams by building the processes, tools, and accountability structures needed to fix them.
    • Create and maintain cross-functional process documentation, SOPs, and training materials; regularly review adoption rates and investigate roadblocks to adoption.
    • Lead or support process improvement projects related to data governance, compliance, and operational efficiency, from scoping through implementation.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership & Project Support
    • Participate in and support key cross-functional meetings: run agendas, capture action items, track follow-through, and escalate risks proactively.
    • Collaborate with the broader Product Operations team to ensure data milestones are sequenced correctly within the larger product creation calendar.

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working with PLM systems (Centric or similar)
  • Comfort working in Excel at an intermediate to advanced level.
  • Experience in a product development, merchandising, or product operations environment, ideally for physical consumer goods.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • A process- and systems-oriented mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing workstreams simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate complex data issues into plain language for non-technical stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach: comfort working across teams and levels, and an understanding that influence without authority is a skill worth developing.
  • Passion for the outdoors and/or knowledge of snowboarding culture is always a welcome bonus.

Is This Role Right for You?

It might be, if you find yourself nodding along to any of these:

  • You get satisfaction from a clean, well-scrubbed dataset.
  • You are the person who documents things other people just keep in their head.
  • You notice when a process is broken and feel compelled to fix it.
  • You are comfortable sitting at the intersection of "this is how it's always been done" and "here's a better way."
  • You can hold a lot of complexity in your head and still communicate clearly to someone who just needs the answer.
  • You want to understand the full picture of how a product gets made and be the person who makes sure the data behind it is always right.
  •

Burton’s benefits package includes health insurance (medical, dental and vision), life insurance (company paid), flex spending, short- and long-term disability insurance (company paid), great parental benefits, 401k plan with company match, and paid time-off. Other perks include a discounted season pass, free lessons, product discounts, free demo equipment, ride days, casual work environment, and many more…

The hiring range for this role is $65,000-$80,000 depending on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, and available budget. Please note that the range details above reflect the base pay only and does not include any potential bonus and other benefits that we offer. This is an on-site role, based in Burlington, VT and will be required to be on site at Burlington HQ at least 4 days per week. We will offer relocation assistance to move to Vermont to any candidate who is hired.
