Overview

Seeking candidates who are observant and display outstanding attention to detail. Candidates can enjoy working outside with our team in helping keep guests and staff safe, all the while experiencing our Harvest Nights and Winterlights Festivals.ย  Candidates must follow all safety and security policies and procedures, complete safety training, and withstand outdoor temperature changes. The positions run from August through mid-January, including regular weekdays and weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Yearโ€™s Eve, New Yearโ€™s Day).

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities describe the general nature of work for employees in this position, but this is not intended as an exclusive or all-inclusive inventory.

  • Interact with the public and museum staff and provide exceptional experiences to all guests
  • Assist guests with general inquiries and rules
  • Represent Newfields in a professional and customer service-oriented manner
  • During Harvest Nights and Winterlights Festivals, address any unsafe behaviors or interactions, report property and art damages
  • Post and roam Lilly House, observing guests and art to deter any interaction or damage to the art
  • Interact and maintain fire pits and warming stations during our Winterlights and Festival experience
  • Work independently with the ability to exercise good judgement in carrying out standard policies and procedures for the security and safety of our guests and property
  • The position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking outside. Approximately 95% of the time is spent standing or moving around inside and outside on the grounds in the gardens. Must be able to stand and remain alert for an extended period
  • Report all incidents, accidents, or medical emergencies as required. Respond to emergencies, such as medical emergencies, and to alarms,ย 
  • Implement appropriate emergency responses to fire, safety, and access procedures by following the security procedures established for these emergency responses

Required Skills

  • Applicant must have a base level understanding of email handling to send, receive, and communicate through electronic mail.
  • Applicant must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondences, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the museum.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and decimals. Must be able to complete job duties using military time.
  • Ability to comprehend and understand detailed written or oral instructions. The ability to think critically and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education and/or Experience

  • Applicant must have a high school diploma/ GED equivalent and the ability to complete the required security training for the position.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Word/Outlook).
  • Have an excellent customer service attitude and related experience.
