Job description

Department: Exceptional Children (EC) 

Job Title: Exceptional Children's Teacher 

Term of Employment: 10 months 

Starting Pay: NC05, $17.33 (subject to changes)

Responsibilities: 

Ability to assume primary responsibility for the planning and implementing of the daily program for children with special needs 

Ability to work well with children and staff for providing guidance to foster optimum development. 

Ability to provide leadership in a classroom setting. 

Ability to relate, work and communicate with children and adults 

Develop and maintain appropriately written Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals for students with special needs and ensure that these plans are being implemented 

Learn and use the Every Child Accountability & Tracking System (ECATS) 

POSITION SUMMARY: The EC Teacher is responsible for providing children with a safe and healthy learning environment; advancing their physical and intellectual growth; supporting social and emotional development; providing positive guidance and discipline; establishing positive relationships with families and encouraging their involvement in the education of their children, ensuring a well-run purposeful program responsive to participant's needs; and maintaining a commitment to professionalism. It is the responsibility of the EC Teacher to provide training and assistance to the Assistant Teacher (if applicable) in developing group/individual activity plans, classroom management and procurement of needed teaching materials and supplies. 

Qualifications:  

48 hours of college courses and proficient knowledge in the area of child development. Experience with children with special needs preferred.
