Job description


The Sr. Manager of Digital Content & Merchandising is responsible for managing and advancing the global digital content strategy, content operations, search optimization, and digital merchandising capabilities that support customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue growth across Performance Coatings Group (PCG).
This leader drives a customer-centric content ecosystem spanning divisional websites, digital customer portals, self-service experiences, eCommerce applications, and emerging AI-enabled digital channels. The position is accountable for ensuring content is optimized for both traditional search engines and AI-driven discovery experiences while delivering scalable governance and operational excellence across global markets.
The Sr. Manager collaborates closely with Marketing, Product Management, Customer Experience, and regional teams to deliver consistent, high-quality digital experiences aligned with business objectives.
Additional Information:
  • This position requires 10% travel.
  • This role is not remote/hybrid. This role will report Sherwin-Williams Cleveland Global Headquarters located at 1 Sherwin Way, Cleveland, OH 44115

Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop and execute the global digital content, merchandising, SEO, and AEO roadmap supporting PCG's growth strategy.
  • Establish enterprise content standards, governance frameworks, and operating models across divisions, regions, and digital channels.
  • Lead and develop a global team of content strategists, digital merchandisers, web content managers, SEO specialists, and digital experience professionals.
  • Drive adoption of industry best practices related to digital content management, information architecture, merchandising, search optimization, AI-enabled content discovery, and customer experience.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to divisional and executive leadership on digital content effectiveness, customer engagement, and optimization opportunities.
  • Partner with Digital Product, UX, and Analytics teams to align content strategy with customer needs and business priorities.

Digital Content Strategy & Operations
  • Lead the development, management, and continuous optimization of digital content across PCG websites and digital customer experiences.
  • Establish scalable content lifecycle processes including creation, approval, localization, governance, maintenance, and retirement.
  • Drive content governance programs that ensure consistency, brand integrity, regulatory compliance, and content quality across global regions.
  • Develop customer-centric content strategies that improve awareness, education, conversion, and customer self-service adoption.
  • Support AI-enabled content operations initiatives that improve efficiency, scalability, and content effectiveness.
  • Partner with divisional marketing teams to support product launches, campaigns, thought leadership, and demand generation initiatives.

SEO, AEO & Digital Discoverability
  • Manage enterprise Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) strategies across all PCG digital properties.
  • Develop capabilities that improve visibility within traditional search engines, AI-powered search experiences, generative AI platforms, and answer engines.
  • Lead optimization efforts across website architecture, metadata, structured content, schema markup, taxonomy, site performance, internal linking, and content quality.
  • Partner with content, UX, and product teams to create authoritative, customer-focused content designed to improve digital discoverability and engagement.
  • Establish measurement frameworks and KPIs for organic search performance, AI-driven referrals, content authority, and discoverability.
  • Monitor industry trends, search algorithm updates, AI search developments, and emerging technologies to continuously evolve optimization strategies.

Digital Merchandising & Customer Experience
  • Develop merchandising strategies that improve product discoverability, solution exploration, and customer engagement.
  • Optimize product categorization, navigation structures, information architecture, and digital product experiences.
  • Lead initiatives to improve on-site search performance, search relevance, recommendation strategies, and customer journeys.
  • Utilize customer insights and behavioral analytics to enhance content placement, personalization, and conversion opportunities.
  • Partner with UX and Digital Product teams to deliver intuitive and effective customer experiences across all digital touchpoints.

Global Governance & Operations
  • Lead global content governance and execution across multiple regions, business units, and divisional websites.
  • Establish content standards, publishing workflows, and operating procedures.
  • Drive consistency while enabling flexibility to support local market requirements and regional business needs.
  • Collaborate with regional marketing and business teams to support localization and translation strategies.
  • Ensure scalability of content models and governance frameworks as PCG expands digital capabilities globally.

Analytics & Optimization
  • Define and track KPIs related to content effectiveness, digital engagement, search performance, discoverability, customer experience, and business impact.
  • Utilize analytics, customer feedback, experimentation, and testing to continuously improve digital performance.
  • Lead content audits, search audits, site optimization efforts, and performance reviews.
  • Deliver executive-level reporting and recommendations to leadership teams.
  • Quantify business impact associated with digital content and merchandising initiatives, including lead generation, self-service adoption, engagement, and commercial outcomes.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future
  • Must be able to travel as required by the position
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Marketing, Business, Communications, or Digital Marketing
  • Must have at least ten (10) years of digital content, digital marketing, website management, merchandising, ecommerce, or digital experience leadership experience
  • Must have at least five (5) years' experience leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Must have experience managing global digital content programs across multiple business units, brands, or regions
  • Must have experience developing and implementing content governance models and enterprise publishing processes
  • Must have experience in SEO strategy, site search optimization, information architecture, and content performance management
  • Must have experience utilizing web analytics, customer analytics, and optimization methodologies to improve business outcomes

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have a Master's Degree or higher in Business Administration, Marketing, or Communications
  • Have experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and enterprise CMS platforms
  • Have experience leading large-scale website transformations and global digital programs
  • Have experience implementing AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and AI search optimization strategies
  • Have experience with personalization, digital asset management, taxonomy management, and search technologies
  • Have experience within manufacturing, industrial, coatings, chemical, or B2B environments preferred
  • Have experience supporting AI-enabled content creation, content operations, and digital experience optimization
